MSnS won't switch to spark map: HELP!

Post by DTDub »

I just switched over to spark control on my Rabbit and followed the directions on the MSnS site. I set fixed angle to 10deg and successfully started the car, set the distributor timing to the fly wheel, and it idles smoothly. I can also set the fixed angle to whatever I want and it will hold that advance (like it should)

Now I should be able to go back into the spark settings, and switch the 'fixed angle' to -10deg to make it switch over to using the set 12x12 spark map. However, it won't read the spark map when I do this; it stays at -10 deg and idles like poop.

The wierd thing is that when the key is on (engine off) the main screen dial will show the advance at the correct setting (as read from the spark table). But as soon as I crank the engine it jumps back to -10deg. I can even watch the green highlighted bin move around the spark table, but the advance always remains at -10deg.

Also, my fast Idle relay goes crazy whenever the engine is running. (I know that isn't right.) This may have something to do with it since the ignition signal is routed out through pin 30 (FIDLE).

I'm running 024s13c MSnS-Extra code, and using the megatune 2.25 full release. I've also tried setting it to -10deg on another laptop with the 2.25 beta, and experience the same resuslts. V2.2 Board

Anyone have any Ideas?

BTW I have a stock VW distributor and I am using the Hall sender for rpm/ignition. I am also using a stock VW ignition module.

If you use FIDLE for spark you must remove the relay. Better is to use LED17/D14 and route it via a spare pin so leaving FIDLE alone.

Please post you MSQ so we can take a look.

We played around with removing the relay, but that didn't seem to make any difference. I'll try it again to make sure....

Can you explain in a bit more detail (or point me to instructions for) how to use the LED output on the V2.2 board? I'm not sure exactly how that works.

I've attached my msq; Thanks for the help!

I understand this is the prefered way of routing the spark output, but can this cause it to not read from the spark table? I'll look at re-wiring it to use the LED17/D14 but it IS outputting a spark signal the way it is wired now (using Bosh ignition module).

ARRGG! This is driving me nuts! It the other car I just setup. I've tried connecting with different laptops, different versions of megatune, re-flashing the MSnS-E code, and even swaping the main IC off of the MS board for another one I have; nothing works!

Are there any other settings which could disable spark control under certain conditions? Maybe these are set wrong and causing MS to revert back to -10deg?

I can't see anything immediately wrong with your settings. There was an issue a long time ago that required you to set "Fixed" to -9.5deg, although I didn't think that applied to 024s13
