What version to get

Post by pc9geek »

I am about to add EFI to my 1988 Porsche 911 turbo. I have purchased most the hardware for the upgrade I just now need the ECU

I will be buying the unit assembled and tested and I plan to install a Ford EDIS along with the EFI and 72lb injectors. I have the EDIS coil pack as shown in the photo but I do not have a EDIS controller module.

Which are the required items to purchase?

#1. -Megasquirt I PCB 2.2 with MSnS-E Firmware
#2. - Megasquirt I PCB3.0 with MSnS-E
#3 - Megasquirt II

Am I correct in saying that only the Megasquirt I PCB3.0 can direct drive a Ford EDIS Coil pack without the use of an EDIS Module? (Or can VB921's be added to the PCB 2.2?)

I intend to install a relay board in the engine compartment, and I already have a LC-1 Wideband O2 sensor

pc9geek,

Welcome to Megasquirt.

It looks like you are off to a good start.

If you want to fire a 6cyl. wasted spark coil pack using the Megasquirt alone, the best board to get is the V3.00 with it's built-in VR input circuit. Also you will use the MS1 CPU with the MSnS-extra firmware. The V3.00 board has a single VB921 built-in but you need two more. IMHO the best way to add more VB921's is to jumper out the .050ohm resistors R37 and R38 used for injector current limiting, and mount the two VB921's in thier place. Then you could install an external connector, like a db15 mounted to one of the case end plates. Wire the VB921's and ignition grounds to the db15 connector and out through a cable to your coil.

If you want to keep R37 and R38 you can mount the VB921's to the lid of the Case.

You will need to mount a crank trigger wheel and VR sensor to your engine, you can use a 36-1 wheel or other wheels, for wasted spark I think as a minimum you will need at least a 6-1 wheel.

I know all that sounds complicated, but really it's easy if you plan it out ahead, it looks like you are allready doing exactly that.
