A little help with acceleration enrichment (16V 4A-GE)

Post by te51levin »

Well, 7A-GE, really, but that's beside the point.

I'm having a hell of a time getting my acceleration enrichment happy. I've tried using TPS and MAP based AE and can't seem to make anything really work well. What is everybody else using?

FWIW I'm using MS-I, V3.0, MSnS-E version 024s13***. The engine has high compression (11.25:1) and moderate camshafts that like an idle above 1000 RPM. The stock AFM-based (L-Jet) system actually ran well but the spark curve was all wrong for the compression ratio, hence the switch to MS.

are you using ITB's?

If not, I've always had good results with TPSDOT.
I'll see if i can find a conf around somewhere that isn't for itb's and massive injectors.

Heya Karl :) No, I'm not using ITBs...yet...just keep pointing that out...! Though I do have a spare set of PHH 40 carbs sitting here doing nothing...

Meanwhile I've gone back to the defalt settings, dialed back to 2/3 of their original enrichment values (I remember having black smoke out the pipe as delivered) so I'll use that as a starting point and will try not to muck with the V/sec values as I had. I think that's what ruined it for me.

cool. yeah just leave those for now...

The accel wizard is pretty good, because you can see the red/blue bar go up to the level you stood on the gas...

I normally start with the bar going up a little, and keep working it up.
ie: if setting is not right, under a hard stomp the bar won't go up to full.

Wait - you must mean the A/F ratio display, right? I think the bar that moves within the accel wizard simply displays rate of TPS movement. And I suspect it doesn't display it particularly accurately. It seems inconsistent. Two identical whacks of the throttle produce two different readings.

not the afr.. i check that afr stays/sits halfway rich pretty much.

the bar that shows tps movement seems accurate enough to me...
in neutral:

good AE settings = I can get bar to move to any level i desire.
bad AE settings = bar won't move as high as it should

Assuming same stab on gas pedal.

That's the damnedest thing I ever heard (well, nearly). I wonder what it uses for feedback...?

yeap, may seem weird, but the bar struggles to move up if the AE settings aren't reasonable (and therefore the motor is revving cleanly).

Still struggling here. Anybody got good default settings for a stock 16V 4A-GE I could start with? Or even on ITBs?

There's a couple of msq's here which are done with the later megatune which's msq's are in xml format.... so you may be able to open them and read the settings.
