NB MX-5/Miata crank trigger wheel

Post by saboteur »

Has anyone had any luck getting the OEM crankshaft position sensor working with the OEM trigger wheel?

Here's a picture of what the wheel looks like:

After having a bit of a read it looks as though this may be what is required, but I'm not so sure:

If you look closely the triggers aren't evenly spaced, looks to be a bit of a beast! :x

That's why I went for the easy option and re-used the CAS from my 1.6 engine when I had the NB engine fitted.

Thanks for your comments Steve but I wish to retain the factory ECU, so I don't know if fitting an older camshaft sensor will be an option. I'm not familiar with odd firing engines but after further reading that link I posted before is definitely not what I'm after!

I have lots more reading to do! :RTFM:

You should be able to trigger the MS from a 1.6 CAS and leave the stock ECU on the stock trigger.

I couldn't tell from the picture on the FM site with any certainty that the teeth are or are not evenly spaced. The teeth in the picture are no more than a pixle or two wide. You'd need a picture of the wheel straight on or some other reference material to know if they are uneven.
