Trigger angle help with GM DIS on MSNS-e 29q2

Post by poundinfire »

Board : V2.2
uP : MS-1
Code : MSnS-E
Version: 29q2
MT : 2.25

I am using my Megasquirt to power my 97 Pontiac Sunfire which is now turbocharged. I have the fuel down-packed but I need to get spark working correctly. I have tried a few versions of code from 26h2 up to 29q2, the latter I just left on.

I have everything set up as in the directions here in terms of hardware and I have tried both the 45/+45 and the 60/0 trigger settings. The 45/+45 stumbles, sputters and stalls fairly quickly, where the 60/0 idles fine, but seems to give up close to 4000rpm. Then it sputters and stumbles as well.

Now when I look at the following image :
Image
the "timing" marks labeled "CYLS. 2&3" and "CYLS. 1&4" come ~35 degrees BTDC for those respective cylinders.

I guess my question is : what does should that make my trigger angle total?

Should it be 30* or or 30 + 60 (to the previous mark) or 30 + 120 to go even further back?

Wopontour was the guy who did all the work on GMDIS, but hasn't posted to the forums in a while.

The angles on the crank sensor do not necessarily tie up with the trigger angle entered into Megatune for these standalone ignition systems.

I guess I'm going to have to get my timing light back and make some timing marks on my engine some-how and start trial-and-error work. Although, I do have the trigger angle set at 0 right now and the engine seems to run great, but I don't know that there is any additional advance going on at all.

I'm quite tempted to try and get EDIS to work on my car. It seems to be much simpler and have a more broad "support" base. Plus it looks like it will be small enough that I could mount the coil pack on the valvecover of my engine easier and have rediculously short ignition wires.
