I've got a 1980 280ZX that Im running on a V3 board, with 029q2 loaded and Im using a 1983 280ZXT optical dizzy (6 slots on inner wheel, 360 slots on outer wheel) and it is currently running on the inner wheel only and using a hitachi ignition module to fire the coil (VERY similar to a GM HEI 4 pin).
Im satarting to lean towards EDIS and I want to do it without having to modify my crank dampner. Im lazy. What I was thinking was to modify my optical chopper wheel and turn it into a 36-1 wheel by filling in 288 of the 360 slits with paint or something, thereby making a 72-2 wheel operating at half crankshaft speed, which would be the equivelant of a 36-1 wheel operating at full crankshaft speed.
ANYWAY, I know the signals between a VR sensor and an optical are different, but is there any way around this?? Or, am I stuck with a 36- mounted on my crank pulley somehow?
any way to use an optical signal dizzy to trigger EDIS?

I wonder how reliable a modified optical dizzy would be? (What happens if the paint falls off?)
Plus the EDIS module is expecting an AC signal from the trigger wheel.
I would suggest you go with the crank wheel if you do want EDIS. It eliminates many sources of unknown and is a proven method.
