How to get the extra code onto the MS1

Post by arnold »

Sorry, I read and reread as much as possible but I am not sure if I understand it all... I have a MS1 V2.2 which had a processor code on it when I bought it.

I want to install the extra code, but now I read that I might need to update MT as well? And I might loose the msq (settings)?

The readme mentions after 5 th of Feb (which year?)

The version of Megatune isn't particularly important in the upgrade context. It is the original firmware version.

First SaveAs in Megatune and keep this safe. You can always revert back to this.

As you are presently using the MS1 with B&G fuel only code on it your best method is to Export the VE table (File Export on the table) and take some screen prints of the other two screens.

Then upgrade your firmware, upgrade the Megatune and configure as required.

While connected to the Megasquirt then Import your VE table into fuel VE table1.
You will then need to setup all of the additional parameters required. (Be aware that there are a lot more menus.)

I think / hope I have the extra code 029q2 on my MS1 now. I cannot configure MT 2.25 yet. In the configurator I cannot choose 029q2 code (is not menstioned), so I tried to copy the msns-extra.ini to MT, that gave an error (saying I don't have the right MT version??), anyway, I cannot find an .ini file named like that at all (was not in the zip of the extra code??), so I copied the msns-extra file (NOT ini) to the correct place in MT 2.25, still I cannot choose the 029q2 with the coinfigrator....

So I it manually in the settings file... Is this okay? I really don't know houw to tell MT that I have the 029q2 version...

This is Windows making life difficult AGAIN. It is hiding the file extension.
In Windows Explorer go to Tools->Folder Options -> View and Untick "Hide extensions for known file type"
Now you will be able to find the files.

Did you run the copyini programme? That does it all for you. This is stated on
http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/setup.html

Yes I did, but that gave an error saying I use the wrong MT version (I just installed a new one). Do I have to connect the MS to the PC? Run MT while running copy.??

So in short: I have MT running, I think I have the extra installed on the MS1, but I don''t know if MT is setup well (could not choose the 029q2 version anywhere)

Ah, you are using a non-English version of Windows and copyini is trying to copy to the wrong place... It sounds like you have copied the msns-extra.ini file to the right place. You'll know because when connected to the Megasquirt, Megatune will open without warning messages and will show 029q2 at the top of the screen.

Also, should have mentioned this in the last post, give 029r code a try. I made changes to the copyini.bat file that is supposed to make it work better with international versions of Windows. I need testers!

http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/files/alpha

The 029r code is 029q2 with a small bugfix for wheel decoder.

If I read the FAQ, check the mini terminal while starting i see a whole lot of &&&&& and YYYY ending with some character. Nothing to read or understand. Going back to earlier msq makes teh stim work again...

That's weird.
Could you try the mini-terminal in normal operation. Open it up, type S T and see what it says.

When I have it running it says
SMSnS-extra format 029q *********TMegasquirtnSpark Extra 029q2 ***

When the fuel pump starts only goes on and off it says (after relaoding the MSQ and powering the MS up again)

***&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
etc. (EDITED by jsmcortina)

Could you post the offending MSQ that causes this behaviour.

You appear to have rotary trailing (spark menu) turned on. This must be
in error as you only have a single spark output. I'll try the MSQ on the
stim when I get home.

OK, I loaded your MSQ and the &&&&&&&&&&&& etc. is the result of a typing error in the code. It should tell you about the rotary configuration.

I'll post some fixed test code shortly to:
http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/files/alpha

see attached picture for rotary settings
