I tried to upload the MSnS-E code and got this message during the firmware update.
This should count up to 1700+ lines
.
src\download.exe -c3 msns-extra.s19
MS Download 1.10
Boot>
Boot>w Complete
Download failed:
Expected response "w Complete Boot>",
but recieved this " ".ot>w Complete
Press any key to continue . . .
Did i screw something up?

It certainly could be the USB interface because the right data came back but at the wrong time. Have you followed the guidelines in the USB sticky in the Megatune sub-forum.

Ok, if i activate "msns-extra.ini.029q" then i noticed that i don't get the same megasquirt menu that the instructions talk about. But if i activate "msns-extra.ini.029c" then i get the ones mentioned in the MSNS-extra website setup instructions. I'm lost with why it's giving me so many problems, likewise i'm not sure why i don't have the option menus that the setup describes. Anyhow think they might know what's going on?

The code and menus have changed since we took the screen shots. Use the correct ini file.1fastredsc wrote:likewise i'm not sure why i don't have the option menus that the setup describes. Anyhow think they might know what's going on?
Please define "goes crazy" in a bit more detail because that expression does not help fault finding.

I'm sorry, basically i tinker with the settings in megatune, burn it to the MS and for a short while everything works fine. However if i unplug the battery on the stim, and then plug it back in, i get one of two things. Either that configuration error where the fuel pump light blinks on and off, or it will respond and start squirt'n but the pulse widths aren't the same as they were when i burned the program to it. Then if i burn the VE table to the MS again, the pulse width will go back to normal, but if i turn the power on and off then the pulse width goes back to something else. Now i noticed that if i go into the input/output configuration menu and change anything, that's when i get the configuration error with the fuel pump light blinking the next time i power it up.

What error message are you seeing when the fuel pump flashes? i.e. open Communications->Miniterminal and turn Megasquirt off then on.

did you ever figure out the source of your error ?
I just powered up my msns-e ecu in-car for the first time yesterday and it fires up the fuel pump relay & nothing else. no status led's on the front, nada...
the squirt was built by a pro (fireandfuel.ca), has the flyback board, and was re-flashed to 029f firmware a couple months ago, but powered by my own 'stim all I get is the blinking fuel pump led.
I've installed plenty of commercial stand-alones & I'm pretty sure my wiring was all correct, but something definately seems buggered.
a point in the right direction would be appreciated.

Have a look here:
http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/faq.html
Configuration conflict meaning you have enabled spark but not selected an output for the spark, or something similar. Probably nothing wrong with your MS or install, just the settings you have put into the MS.
Ian.
