problem with MSnS download-firmware.bat

Post by Malcman »

hi all,
ive just upgraded to the extra code and had a few hassels doing so and was wondering if it was just me.
im on a MS1 version 3 board, and just upgraded to the MSnS exra version 029q2.
i first tried to use the auto loading file the download-firmware.bat file and followed the instructions to the letter and several times it came back with download failed; and something like expected "w recieved " BOOT>
the first stage when the program removes the older version of code worked successfully because the ms had absolutely no response to anything when powered.
i then manually installed the same version of extra firmware 029q2 using hyperterminal and had success first time. :D
i was just keen to know if anyone else has similar problems and whether it is anything to worry about.
:?
my second question is how do i configure to use the 3-bar map sensor?
the instructions say that using on the ms1 i need to change code for megatune, and for ms2 i dnt. what about MSnS-extra? because you can sellect 300kpa in the constants, so do i select that and burn to ecu? or do i have to use hyperterminal and send the MS.s19 file to the ms?
and for megatune must i still follow the instructions given in the megamanual for the 3-bar or do i just put the MS.asm file into megatune?

the MS.s19 and MS.asm file links are at the bottom of the 3-bar sensor page in the megamanual however they do not exist anymore?

please help anyone,
cheers guys

Could you post a screenshot (ALT-PrtSc then paste into paint) of exactly what you see when using download firmware.

To use the 3bar sensor you need to use the Megatune Configurator and open up Car1, Settings and choose 3bar map. Then select 3bar map in the Constants page inside Megatune. No need to download any other firmware.

I had that same problem and i'm using the normal MAP sensor. It turns out that i had to jumper the boot terminal and power it BEFORE starting the firmware .bat file and it would work everytime.

Looks like your USB-serial adapter is buffering the data and not responding as the downloader expects.

Was the MS running on standard MS code or was it already something different?

The first questions asks about this. I answered "Y" and got the same error. Answering "N" got me through.

the ms was running the 'el stocko' standard code, never changed until this point.
it couldnt have been the usb serial adapter because i still used the same connection when i used hyperterminal to manually install the extra code, so the problem cant be related to any cable, adapter, connection ect.

unless MS-DOS has a problem with the serial adapter and somehow hyperterminal bypasses this issue?? im not sure.

after i installed the extra code i did then try it again, and did click on NO when it asked whether your upgrading from the origional MS. and still had the same response.
the only thing i can think of is if some corruption occured when i dl the file?

thanks guys

I'm pretty sure it is a serial comms difference between the MS-DOS download and Hyperterminal. It sounds like you were doing the right things.

I think James may remember but I used to get very odd messages too when using my serial cable to flash... I went through checking for signal loss etc and it turned out I somehow had a bad download of the firmware. Try redownloading and all that stuff. Like they said though, it could be the USB -> Serial
