Settings for MSnS-E with MSD 6a...?

Post by defiance »

I've got my wiring configured as recommended on the MSnS-e setup page for the MSD 6A, but I'm having some spark funkiness... Spark isn't being read by my timing light when running from MS (though it is sparking), but reads fine running distributor directly to msd box). So, I don't know where my timing is, and don't want to actually put fuel to it until I know that it's at least close. I'm guessing maybe the spark duration is too short or something (though I've tried moving dwell around all over the place...) So, I've been searching through thread after thread looking for discussions of settings used successfully for the 6A, and two things I've noticed -
1) nearly all the discussions about 6A settings revolve around MS-II, which seems to have a very different set of settings to configure, and
2) the settings people claim to have working 'right' are all over the map! Some claim it needs 75% duty cycle, some claim it needs dwell, and works best at sub- 1ms, some claim it needs 25.5ms (requiring editing of config file to allow that), some claim it needs normal signal, others claim it needs inverted...

Anyway, though, I found several posts from people who were running 6A's off of msns-e, but I didn't find any details of their configurations...
Can anyone who has a 6A running properly post some details of how they have it configured?

Thanks!!

Use a fixed dwell option, say 75% and use "inverted" spark output with the white wire connected either to FIDLE or a wire from LED17/D14(-)

You can manually check the strobe by connecting/releasing the white wire to ground. It will fire when you release it from ground.

Because the white wire is the points input and because MSD is capacitive discharge, the dwell time is irrelevant, hence using a fixed dwell.
