I changed my topic in hopes of getting more traffic. This is probably a no no.

How much power can a 2N2222/1K/1N4001 circuit handle? I know for fans a relay is required.

Well, you'd be hooking ~14V (running voltage) up to the relay. So the transistor can handle ~14V without a problem.
What you need to watch out for is the current as the 2n2222a can only handle up to 500mA per it's datasheet.
Don't worry though. Driving a standard automotive relay only requires about 150-200mA of current so the 2n2222a can handle it without any trouble. Just don't forget the diode mentioned in the following diagram (the right side).

Thanks for the reply!!! It turns out my problem was a reversed transistor. I am pretty sure the silk screening is wrong on this daughter board but it could have just been a flat screw up on my part.
I had the valve hooked up through a test 2N2222/1k/1N4001 circuit and MS last night and it works perfect. On at 500RPM off at 3200RPM.
