Cranking RPM and timing

Post by Daniel Ahlin »

Does the spark timing depend on the Cranking RPM setting?

I tried to start my engine today and the timing was off. Now when I have checked things I found that my Cranking RPM was set to 300 and the real RPM while cranking is 200.

Using
Megasquirt and Edis, timebased crank timing

Cranking rpm is the switchpoint at which MS leaves the cranking settings and goes into RUN.

Was your timing off in cranking or run ?

Its while cranking, the engine doesnt run yeat.

When I crank it backfires and the timing light I had yesterday didnt trigger with my engine. It triggers fine with my other car.
Theres a good spark on all plugs.

During cranking the code uses the "cranking advance" setting to determine the advance when in timebased mode, or fires directly off the input signal in trigger return. So verify these settings are correct.

The timing was off by 180 degrees. Coil A & B wires where switched.
When I got that sorted it started directly and idles fine with lambda 0.78
