reset problem help !!!

Post by fritoss007 »

using board ms v3 with msns-e q2...4 VB921 with 4 msd blaster ss coils...

i almost got no reset when i was tuning n/a...but now more i turn the screw on my boost ctrl more i get resets......

i get so much resets that the car is unusable !!

I checked all my grounds, installed a noise filter on my ms, ran a new wires from a independant relay to feed the ms...but still got resets

can my VR makes the MS resets ?
can the polarity of the VR makes the MS reset ?

What spark plugs do you have? Make sure to run resistored plugs (5kohm). This caused resets under load on my engine with 3 vb921s. I changed the plugs and now it works great. Also, make sure your dwell settings are good.

I got a stable 14.12V+DC when idling !!

I looked at my spark plus they are champions RC9YC...and on there web site they said that they are resistor plugs....so !

last thing....I made a mistake qhen i've hookup my 4 VB921s...i'm in wastespark mode...so i'm using 2 outputs to drive 4 VB921s....I saw that on MS web site that i'm needing 680 Ohms resistor on each VBs...i was having 330 Ohms ones...this way i have been able to adjust the dwel to something that is looking fine....no more missfires

I think that my first problem was really hard missfires...that cause the ms resets....

i installed a capacitor coming from a ford coils pack on my 12V+DC of my coils and ground it to the frame....this might help out a bit too...

finally...almost no resets...but still got some...some times i can drive for 30 minutes without any resets and some times....that is bad...arround one reset at every 2 minutes....

so i still need to work on this....i think i will ad one more capacitor on my 12V+DC on my MS....

you have any other advices for me ??

thanks alot guys !

here is some updates...

yesterday evening, I did some more testing....and i think i fiwed up my problems...

I looked over the forum and i found that if the polarity of my VR is wrong, i can get some wired timing or ignition problems...so i started looking on google to find the polarity of my Ford VR sensor...and i found a draw of the connector with the pins.....so i have unhooked the VR and then tested with an Ohm-meter and i found that i was wrong with my polarity....i inverted the wires....and...BINGO ! seem to work..

but i said "seem"...because i will need to re-tune the VR pots cause i'm loosing the tach sometimes...but no more missfires or resets....

I'll tune my VR pots...and i'll update this post maybe tomorrow !

thanks all of you guys !

Hi,
Can you pleast post your findings on the Ford VR sensor polarity/pinout?
I'm using the same sensor and would like to make sure I wired it up correctly.

thanks.

Are you using fan control? My MS resets when fan control is active, even if the fan is not connected.

here is the draw i found over google !

but i'm very not sure about it !

now i got really bad rpm problems....

when i slaping the gas pedal...the rpm is doing spikes from 1200RPM to 400RPM...and the engine is doing a kind of cutoff...sometimes it goes over 1200RPM and then it seem to running fine...

I trim the VR pot the best i can with the tooth logger mode...

but you have the pig tail of the ford VR sensor ? with wires color i can look at a shop manual to find the polarity !!

I was having reset problems with the fan control...so now it is always ON !!

My sensor does not come with pigtail. It has a "standard" Bosch style 2 pin connector on the sensor itself.
