Hi all,
I have just wired up launch control in my chev power Hilux Surf(4runner)..
I have often brought engine revs up to circa 2000rpm and droped the clutch to get a fast start or indeed intentional wheelspin....
Upon 1st test drive i bought engine revs to 2000rpm and flicked the switch, (i have launch control set to variable)
I floor the gas pedal and let the engine bounce on the limiter for half a second(it works very well)I the clutch out (not to quickly) and flicked the swich to release the rev limit.
I anticipated a fair amount of wheelspin as it had been raining.
My chev at 2000rpm under full load has a fair amount of torque being a TPI engine.
This torque was enough to instantly break teeth off the crownwheel and/or pinion.
There was no wheelspin, just loud clunking....
I write this whilst chuckling quietly to myself, laughing at my own foolishness.
This is a warning to all with launch control on the mind,
use it carefully.
Cheers,
Daniel.
