wiring
im using 4x 3pin coilpacks cop
i have 1&4 triggered earths wired to spark A
i have 2&3 triggered earths wired to spark B
then all 4 are earthed to the head at the same point
then the 12v from the fuel pump relay to all 4 cops
the coilpacks are non intelligent bosch ones i have a seperated power output module but never used it as i have 4x vb921s
bill shurvinton built the ecu ive sent him a msq but i think hes a bit stumped with this too
the vr wiring is good no spikes on any datalogs
it will start and run with no problems but the when i try to set the timing i noticed when i set a fixed angle and increase the rpm slightly the timing marks start to move down the back of the pulley which i think is advancing it
it will drive under any load without backfiring which the neighbours realy enjoy
it must be somthing realy simple that or i just jinxed

Are you 101% sure it is a 60-2 wheel ?

hmm
im pretty sure its a vw engine and they mostly have the 60-2 wheel its on the crank so unable to see it
think its a variable reluctor sensor or somthing
id be supprised if it wasnt most vw conversions ive seen have used the crank trigger 60-2 wheel
you got me thinking now lol gonna double check

Edit your active msns-extra.ini to enable the trigger loggers and post screenshots of pages 10 and 11 in the table editor

CTRl+SHFT+PrintScrn then paste into a picture program. Usually under edit paste as new image. Then save the jpgbens_cab wrote:how do i save screen shots it wont give me any save menu ect ect

ALT-PrintScreen will capture a single window
PrintScreen will capture the whole lot.
Then, open up Paint and Edit->Paste or CTRL-V
If you don't see pages 10,11 you need to edit
c:\program files\megasquirt\megatune\mtcfg\msns-extra.ini and change #unset to #set LOGPAGES then save and re-open Megatune.
Be sure to change this back to #unset afterwards or MSQs will load and save funny.

I had a look at the trigger and tooth logger screen shots and I think something is badly wrong - I do not see a stable 60-2 wheel pattern. Are you on "024 style" or "025 style" wheel decoder? I need the 025 averaging on my install to get any decent running.

Have you looked at
http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/triggerlog.html
This tries to explain the trigger logger page.
On your page 10 log I see lots of values starting $02 $xx - these are non-missing teeth. Then there are values $06 $xx that is two missing teeth - ok.
But what the values starting $45 are just nonsense - like it missed 30 teeth in one go ?!?!
This would indicate a problem with the VR sensor or VR sense circuit either misdecoding or mistriggering.
I had similar noise when my engine had badly oil fouled plugs. I messed around with the sensor gap (ALL DAY) and got it vaguely ok. Cleaning the plugs in a less oily engine and it was fine. I was getting misfires though.
The page 11 logs appear to show quite unstable rpm readings wandering up and down.
hope this helps a bit

ok
when i got the screen shots the car had just started it was a bit lumpy anyway would that effect the table editor
also i did clean my plugs just before i took the screen shots as they were fouled
not sure on the vr circuit as bill got the ecu for me so would need to ask him also is it ok to use trigger return with a vr sensor im sure i read somewhere that trigger return was for hall effect sensors

With the wheel decoder the trigger return concept is changed somewhat and uses the additional teeth you specify. This is only during cranking though so it will not impact running.
How did you un-foul the plugs? I cleaned mine my blasting them with a blow torch as hot as I dared. They went from fouled black to light tan. Really made a big difference in the engine running - no more misfires.
Try another log when you've done this and the engine is running as smoothly as you can.

obviously lots of my settings still need work as i was trying to sort the timing first
thats why its a bit lumpy but ill adjust a few things and see

I doubt if it is log pages. Can you do a comms log
(Communications - > Diagnostic log) of sending the MSQ.
Open MT, start the log. Open the MSQ, send/burn then close Megatune.
You've find
C:\program files\megasquirt\car1\comm.log
attach or email the file

logpages
well i unset the logpages and tried again and the msq burned with no problems odd
ill do a comms test tommorow and see what it does
but i still have the issue of the timing running away so going to do some reading and see what i can churn up i think that my usb cable may be the cause off the weird table editor readings
in the table editor if it show actualy skipping 30teeth then i would imagine the car wouldnt run and idle as well as it does ?
