is there any way of testing the tacho unit as ive built it and it worked fine for about a month now its stopped working im not sure if its the unit i made or my tacho thats gone up the s***

i had a mess around with it and it seems ok i made up another tacho unit and still the same nothing !!

james i have a function generator thats has external frequency mesurement will that be any good ( im crap when it comes to things like this but willing to lern ) if i can use this what do i do ?????

Something crude like a multi-meter with a Hz setting will also do, or a scope. OR even a volt meter on the AC setting.

right put meter on it this morning on settings acv 200 its the lowest setting on there and all i get with driver circuit on it i get 28.8 and nothing else when i rev it it stays as it is

then i did m/s side of it and got no reading so i switched it to dcv and got -0.02 when reved it altered to 0.00 and that was it

any clues whats wrong with it the m/s is running fine i just want the tacho back other wise turbo timer etc dont work

tach or dwell meter from an auto store would work to see the signal.

Have you checked with megatune that it is still enabled?

yes its still switched on and i changed the speed to half and still the same thing

If you get an LED test light at low rpms you should be able to see the led flickering if you probe the transistor base and then the output.Megamanual shows how to make one from a pen case, led,needle,wire and a resistor.That is if you cant get hold of a meter with Hz setting.
