Verifying 10deg BTDC on a Corrado???
Trying to run EDIS4 on a 91 Corrado G60. The Corrado has the timing indicator on the flywheel, so it has no degree wheel. So you have to use one of those dial type timing lights that don't work with wasted spark.
What can I do???
I'm sure I have the VR sensor pretty close, but I'm also sure I'm probably a couple of degrees off. Worst case scenario, if I were to leave the timing where it is could I just compensate for the 2-4 degrees it may be off?
So basicly, I'm having trouble getting to 10 deg BTDC, can I just leave it and compensate in Megatune? If not, please tell why.
Thank You,
Phil

Could you describe the timing marks on the flywheel a little more? If there are any timing marks you should be able to use them.
Also, if this is a 60-2 setup from the factory you could possibly use that instead of EDIS (although it sounds like you are very close on the EDIS setup and should likely finish it off.)

Re: Verifying 10deg BTDC on a Corrado???
Timing marks on the Corrado flywheel are 0 and 6 deg.
Set your timing gun and MS to 6 instead of 10 and use that mark.
Accomplishes the same thing.
If I'm not mistaken, 10 is just used because it's a common timing mark and most cars will fire up with timing set in that range.

10deg is built into the EDIS module as the "limp home" base timing with SAW removed. The timing MUST equal this or all the timing will be off. Adjusting Trigger Angle in Megatune will not compensate for this.

Does it have anything to do with dwell? Or if I know that it is 4 degrees off can I compensate on the spark table?jsmcortina wrote:10deg is built into the EDIS module as the "limp home" base timing with SAW removed. Will it run? like it should if I compensate on the spark table?
Thank You?

If what you say is accurate, then that is what I wanted to hear. thats pretty much the thought between me and my buddy that is helping me.Carl Gianonatti wrote:Dwell is controlled by the edis module. Changing the dwell will do nothing. I don't really think it's too important to get the spark dead on. I think it's really nice to know exactly what the timing is though. Through tuning you will compensate if there are any discrepancies.

another option
It would be easy to set the motor at 10 degrees and mark the flywheel with a 10 degree mark. If I recall there is plenty of room to punch a mark in the wheel through the viewing portal or use a paint marker.

On a vw with edis the only way that ive been able to check it is to leave the saw wire connected then set all the timing values in the timing map around idle to 6 deg. Check that megatune says 6deg on the timing guage on the 1st screen. Then use a cheap timing light and check the timing at the flywheel. Assuming that you have the edis module wired corectly and you have the settings right in megatune you should be seeing 6 deg on the pointer. Then you know you have the wheel aligned correctly.
