Installed "Dave" Cap now wont run over 1000RPM

Post by DeneOehme »

MSnS, 2.2 board,

As the subject says. I installed the Dave Cap to get rid if low end tach spikes but then it wouldn't under any circumstances run over about 1000 - 1100 RPM. Dave cap now uninstalled but still have tach spike sto deal with.

Latest Code MSnS, 2.2 board, MSD6a, distributor with VE and 4 pin ignition module supplying tach info.

Anything else you need to know?

Thanks in advance.

Could be that you have larger than 0.22uF in that or perhaps even if you have the "correct" value it may be too large for your setup. Try half that ( two 0.22 uF in series) or even less.

As you are trying to run spark control do not fit the Dave cap at all - it will alter the timing. You need to eliminate the noise by careful grounding, wire routing and screening.

Ok, that makes sense. I take it that the other suggested filter circuits etc wont play ball with spark control either?
