Output 3 does not stay on, pulses?

Post by ion332 »

Just like it say, I am using output 3 to control my fans and the fans never turn on. It shows on MT that its on, and I do see it go from 12v to a pulse train, so I know its changing state properly.

Looked at it on a scope and see a pulse train.

Grounded the junction to the fans, and the relay switched them on just fine. The pulses are pwming the relay and its not got enough voltage to turn it on that way.

Any ideas?

You did install a driver transistor didn't you?

Yes of course.

Same setup as the fuel pump relay driver.

It works just fine, its just pulsing.

NM, I reflashed it and redl'ed the msq into it, and now it seems fine. AS long as it has a pulse from a wheel, it grounds the relay so thats fixed.

Got another one for ya though, and this one you are prlly gonna hate me for but this is a definitely reproducible occurence:

I decided to try to use the proper fan output (figured the loss of water inj is not a big deal at this point) , so I set the codebase/x4(jso2) to FAN. Then I set more settings/more outputs/use above source or FAN to FAN CONTROL.

Well, the moment I did that, the LED 18 turns halfway on. Turns out its pulsing now. (this is my spark C, so this wouldn't be a good thing)

The pulses are about 50uS negative going, about 375uS apart.

Go back and set the x4/jso2 to WATER INJ and it turns back off. I went ahead and did a hard reset on ms, and still same effect. its off until it gets pulses from the wheel, then it goes back to normal operation, does the dwell and everything just fine, but, the moment the wheel stops, the pulsetrain comes back again after a few moments.

I found this same a long time ago. For unknown reason, instead of stayng on, the outputs start pulsing if there is no IRQ.

I wonder if one part of code is clearing it and a different part setting it. I'll try to take a look when I have an MS1 back on the stim.

Cool, thanks!

BTW, I am prlly just going to put a simple lowpass on the base of the transistor until then so once it starts the pulsing the transistor will stay on rather than go into resistive mode which is where it sits now, at about 3v on the output which isn't enough to activate the relay.
