direct trigger coil pack
i want to know how to setup my MS1-3.0 to directly fire an eclipse coil pack?
i have a Eclipse cam crank sensor i just need to know how to set up the MS unit to directly get them to fire.
i have a DIYAUTOTUNE Built MS-1 3.0 029y4 mapdaddy 4.0
i used it to run my old 95 eclipse. i now have a mitsubishi starion and want to
use the extra coil pack i have from my eclipse to run the starion with the eclipse
coil pack and my ms-1 3.0
Thanks,

Re: direct trigger coil pack
You'd need to install a pair of BIP373s or other ignition control transistors.

Thanks matt !
if i used my megasquirt to run an eclipse in the past with this setup:
http://www.diyautotune.com/tech_article ... _laser.htm
does that mean i can run the coil packs with that setup and directly fir the coils, or do i still need to add the BIP373s ???
Thanks.

Re: direct trigger coil pack
That write-up is for using the factory ignition module.

Re: direct trigger coil pack
I now have the 2 Bip373 and i am ready to build the circuits for ignition control of the coils.
i am a little confused.
when reading the install of the 373's it seems that they are using one that is all ready built on the board.
Q16 i believe. do i not use that? or do i not jumper IGBTout to IGN if i install the 2 373's i have?
proper way described on your bip 373 install site:
"Jumper IGBTOUT to IGN to send to IGBT ignition coil driver signal out of pin 36 on the DB37"
"On a V3.0, use this wire/resistor combo to jumper the 'top'
lead of R26 on a V3.0 to IGBTIN on the opposite side of the PCB"
now stated below i assume this is where my new purchased 373 would come in if i were to add a SECOND driver.
"Now, you will be constructing duplicates of this BIP373 circuit for each coil output you need, if you're using more than 1 output. You can mount the additional BIP373s on a second heat sink stacked on top of the first, attached on top with long screws. Or you can mount the BIP373s to the case."
so by reading that, i think the first circuit was made using Q16 (the VB 921 on my board)
if that is all true. then i only needed to add one more 373 driver circuit. i did not have to buy 2 373 circuits?

Re: direct trigger coil pack
Normally the V3.0 board comes with one BIP373 installed (and kits are supplied with one.) So to support two high-current coil outputs you would normally only need to add one additional BIP373.

Re: direct trigger coil pack
Hi,
Just to confirm...is it correct that ONE BIP373 to one wasted spark coil pack(powering two spark plugs)?
Or is it One BIP373 to one spark plug (ie two BIP373 on parallel to one coil pack)?

That's the correct way.efims wrote:Just to confirm...is it correct that ONE BIP373 to one wasted spark coil pack(powering two spark plugs)?
