V3.0 MS1 HEI to pertronix question
Hello,
Its been a long while since I messed with my megasquirt controller. I have been running V3.0 MS1 for 5 or 6 years on a GM HEI 4 pin. Fuel only no spark. For ease of setting my timing, I am changing the distributor back to the original delco unit, but using a pertronix unit instead of points. As I remembered running the tach signal off the GM HEI was the same as the negative side of the coil. I went back and looked at my V3 build and went through the build instructions. Looks to me that all I need to do is hook up my current HEI connection for the trigger to the negative side of the coil on the pertronix set up.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Ryan

If you're still running fuel only, it won't care if you are using HEI or Pertronix, the mods are the same.

It depends on the tach input signal you want to use. There's a lot of information about it here. In particular, pay attention to the table at the bottom of the page:Bzltyr wrote:What mods? I am attepmting to get a tach signal from my 4 pin HEI in an Oldsmobile. I cannot find any direction.

There's also information elsewhere in the manual specifically about GM HEI modules, but that pertains to 7- and 8-pin modules.

Thanks for the quick reply. I do not want to control spark just read it - for controlling the fuel - the tables.

That's okay. "MSnS mode" is simply for reading the tach signal from a distributor, whether you want to control spark or not.Bzltyr wrote:Thanks for the quick reply. I do not want to control spark just read it - for controlling the fuel - the tables.
Re: V3.0 MS1 HEI to pertronix question
Thanks, again. I will have to look into this further for jumper information and external wiring. The TACH terminal goes to Pin 24 with sheilded cable, I believe.

I see you have a business. I am planning on purchasing an MS2 duaghter card so I can use a stepper IAC and a TBI. Can you take care of that for me and also any jumpers needed to use the HEI 4 Pin for a TACH signal?

He is out of business. If you're looking for a vendor I have had very good luck with DIY Autotune.

Thanks.
DIY does not do repairs or setup, I don't think.

Perhaps we can walk you through this? If you can take some pictures of the board now, and tell us exactly what you want to do I'm sure we can get you there.

Re: V3.0 MS1 HEI to pertronix question
Correct, unless we originally built the board. Peter Florance is a good one to contact for repairs and upgrades to boards built elsewhere.Bzltyr wrote:Thanks.

Thanks for your help.
I could not get logged in after computer problems at home. I have re-registered as Bzltyr1.
I finally figured out I had a MS1. I went through the manual and got it figured out.
Thanks again for the assistance.
