How does megasquirt cut spark with an ignition module?

Post by niccolatorres »

Greetings buddies!
This is my first post (that post that makes us afraid coming from a freshman)... I have a MS related question on how does it cut sparks using an ignition module (such as Bosch 7 pin 0 227 100 147).

My configuration is based on hall distributor system with Bosch 7 pin ignition module 0 227 100 147.

MS is only connected on this through rpm signal and I did not have configured to cut sparks yet ( I want to use flat shift/launch control features)

I've studied a lot before posting this question and I did not find any reasonable neither logical answer based on megasquirt manuals nor my electronics/computer knowledge as a computer engineer.

So, understanding that there's no magic on megasquirt spark cut system, how does it cut spark by retarding TDC with a single connected wire on ignition module (for reading rpm/synchronization)??

Sounds like you are receiving a tach-in signal from the ignition module and Megasquirt is only controlling fuel - correct?

In this case you cannot do spark cut.

You need the Megasquirt to be controlling ignition fully for spark cut. (It won't work with EDIS or GMDIS either.)

I can repair or upgrade Megasquirts in UK. http://www.jamesmurrayengineering.co.uk

Thanks for your response, James!

Yes, that's correct! I am only connecting MS to Bosch Ignition tach signal. By connecting to Pin 24 v2.2 board.

So,
to cut spark through Bosch Ignition module, do I need to implement the following circuit on v2.2 board?

Image

According to source, I must connect MS v2.2 pin 25 to Bosch Ignition Pin 6:

Pin 6 > Spark output from Megasquirt (Pin 36 for a V3.0 PCB or pin 25 (X11) for a V2.2 PCB)

So, implementing this can MS cut spark with Bosch Ignition module? Sorry about my exhaustive questions, btw
