24-1 trigger cam wheel settings

Post by azaad »

can a 24-1 cam wheel work on ms1 firing a single coil?

where can i find the option to set the ignition to detect wheel speed to cam speed?

There is no option to run a trigger wheel at cam speed, BUT you can trick the MS into thinking it's a crank-speed wheel. Remove one tooth 180 from the current missing tooth, and set the wheel up as a crank speed 12-1.

And yes, that will work with a single coil.

Thanks....and another option will be to move to an ms2 processor to use the wheel as 24-1?

Actually, it can work - you just need to set trigger points every 90 degrees on the wheel.

How would you explain to the MS that the missing tooth only shows up every 720 crank degrees?

If you have enabled one spark output, four trigger points, and four cylinders - that will effectively tell it that is what is going on.

The wheel decoder is a front end for a distributor code that has been modified so that separate trigger points can be assigned to separate outputs. If you enable only one spark output, they are all assigned to that output. And it is looking for two pulses per engine revolution on a four cylinder. So if you set up four trigger points, the wheel decoder simply passes on the pulses to a basic distributor pattern.

So - this is one of those cases where the code is so simple it doesn't care?
