Need Guidance Tuning Turbo 16v

Post by zacamil7525 »

Hello all. I have hit a bit of a roadblock with my project. I have a MS1 V2.2 board with a twin edis running COP. 650/cc Bosch injectors. The car is an 87' 190e 2.3 16v. Prior to going forced induction I had a great NA tune but craved more power. With the forced induction setup the car now idles beautifully but will experience random lean spikes that stall the car. I am hesitant to take the car on the road and run VEAL the way it is now. Could someone please take a look at my most recent tune and data log to see if I have forgotten anything? Current tune and data log attached.

This may be an ignition miss - I'd check the spark plug gap and condition of the plug wires.

Thanks Matt. I will check that. If you had a chance to look did you see anything on the tune that looked out of place?

The spark table could use some flattening out at low RPMs; there's an abrupt jump from around 10 to 20 degrees that can de-stabilize the idle.

+1 to spark gap. We go from a NGK 6@1.1mm to a NGK8 @ 0.8mm when turboing NA motors. Sorry haven't looked at tune.
Datalog it and look for noise... possibly TPS decel/enrich.. RPM spike/drop... etc.

suberimakuri thank you. The NGK8 plugs are a lot cooler than the NGK5 I am using now. I cannot locate an NGK8 plug with a stud terminal that will work with my cops. All of the resistor NGK8 plugs seem to be of the solid terminal variety. I am using Denso cops from a CBR600RR motorcycle. NA with the NGK5 plugs worked great.

I found a plug that I think will work. Denso 5328 I am going to give them a try.
