dwell changing after fast eccel

Post by mazdaspeed »

Hello people i have been having major problems with a car trying to get the AE to respond i have tuned 7 megasquirts now and all but one i couldnt get it dialed in.
engine is a toyota 7k efi running ms1 2.2 with internal bib 373 coil driver

so after deciding its not accel that's holding it back i have since found with a timing light that there is a slight spark drop out under fast stabs on the throttle

thing i have done
replaced pluges (gaped at 1.0mm then dwn to 0.6 mm)
replaced coil with brand new bosch
replaced cap, leads and rotor
incresed dwell time (problem improved but still ther)
Scoped the current draw from the coil power feed (6a peak and under very fast stabs dropping to about 2a peak)
tested for voltage drops (non existed) changed and beefed up wiring anyway still no change
replaced bib373 (no different)

engine runs great otherwise just that miss from idle is really getting to me. is it possible the ms1 isint fast enough to calculate the correct dwell time in time for the spark??.

although the miss is there it does rev quick from 1k to 3k rpm

here is my current tune and yes ino the AE table is way of that's because iv been trying to sort the spark issue first. data log will be up tomorrow as my laptop is dead

any help much appretiated

MSQ... also would the hardware latency have any affect on this??

Please also post a data log of the problems.

Sorry Matt been very busy with another install.

here is the data log while we were looking at the timing light that would go out it was very hard to catch but the is defiantly a quick flick on the light when rapidly hitting the gas

Many dial-back timing lights have a hard time tracking the spark under rapid RPM change. A light with no dial-back can work better.

MS1 does have some processor speed limitations on spark accuracy. A distributor trigger also does as it only updates engine position twice per crank revolution. Upgrading to MS2 plus adding a 36-1 crank trigger would make for much more accurate timing. I can't promise that's the problem here, though.

Thanks

Dwell is responding to the drop in battery voltage.

You need to figure out why the voltage is dropping and fix it.
