4 bar map daddy on Megasquirt V3 MS1

Post by MatthewGT3 »

Hi guys ... I'm totally new to this. I have bought a Fiat Punto GT1 with megasquirt. It has an MS1 V3. I have noticed that it has a 4bar map daddy connected to it. I have a friend that has some knowledge with megasquirt and asked him if he could help me fine tune it and add boost etc ... We noticed thatb the Map sensor is reading 67Kpa on ignition without the engine not running ... and he said that it has to be ~100Kpa that is 1 bar in order for him to fine tune my megasquirt program or else it would give him false readings. Can someone help me identify why my 4 bar map sensor is reading 67Kps on ignition and not 100? What can I do/check if it is installed correctly? Software wise as it seems to be installed correctly on the main board. I am using the tuner studio MS lite v2.6.19. I have added a screenshot and when I go to map sensor warning it says when using 4 bar map sensor you must use megatune bla bla bla to enable the sensor otherwise all of the KPA values in megatune will display incorrectly ....

Cheers Guys

Set the MAP sensor type to 4 bar in Project Properties.

Hi guys. I followed this information: http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/mapd ... p-117.html to check if my 4 bar map daddy is installed correctly or not. I have installed megatune and started the steps one by one. I have found out that the first step:

Before opening MegaTune, open the Megatune Configurator

Expend SETTINGS.INI, then SETTINGS, then MAP_SENSOR and set it to
”MPXH6400A – MPXH6400 – 400 kPa”

Save and exit the Configurator

The map sensor was chosen to be the standard one so I changed that to the MPXH64000A -- MPXH6400 - 400KPa and save and exit.

Then I followed the 2nd step ... and I could not find "constants@ in megatune :S. I closed the mega tune and opened tunerStudio and the the Map sensor reads exactly 100KPa ... I tried starting the engine it fires up but the Map sensor doesn't change at all. I tried to blow air to it or vacum with my mouth but still it remains 100KPa ... does this show that it is not set up right? Do I have to do something else?

I really need your help

Thanks guys

Hey man, sorry I didn't see your reply ...

I have done what you told me and set it to the 4 bar one, it was set for the standard. But now my map sensor reads maximum and is red ... I have attached screenshot ... Do you know why?

Thanks for your help

To get a copy of the MSQ (tune) file, connect to the ECU with TunerStudio and go to File -> Save Tune As.

Here you go matt! Thanks for the help so far! All is left is that d*** map daddy to work and I'll be good to map the engine. Would be nice if you could give it a look and maybe alter something or give me some info what to do in order to get my map daddy to work.

Cheers

Right click on the MAP gauge and go to "Vac / Boost", then select "MAP ADC Gauge". Let me know what it reads.

It's pegged. Check the voltage coming out of pin 1 (square pin on the PCB) on the MapDaddy header with the key on and engine off.

I checked the voltage of the squarish pin 1 with a ground on the PCB and it gave me 1.16v ...

If you change the Project Properties to 2.5 bar, what does the MAP ADC gauge read?

Kynar 30 ga wire (wire wrapping wire) makes great jumpers if its just logic.

Always secure the solder termination of jumper wires with a small blob of 5 minute epoxy, and about every inch.

Touch it with a soldering iron after cure and it turns to dust or simply lets loose with a little heat.
It works well for strain relief because its lousy glue.
Always doing things the hard way, MS2 sequential w/ v1.01 mainboard, LS2 coils. 80 mile/day commuter status.

For the benefit of the doubt, I have just bought a standard 2.5bar map sensor the one which come with the MS1 V3 board. I only need to unsolder the map daddy and solder this standard one ehh? And only change the setting from tuner studio right?

Thanks

Yes, it's a pretty straightforward replacement, but I think there may be some damage to the PCB itself.
