Adding a second boost control solenoid,?

Post by Nigep »

I'll try and explain my requirements first, it will explain what I'm trying to do.

My track car runs 0.6bar actuator pressure, but 0.85 with my well tuned open loop boost control map.

I've added a second closed loop table with 1.1 bar target, then, if conditions and circumstances warrant it, I press a steering wheel mounted switch that swaps closed loop target maps and switches to the 1.1 bar target. Despite my best efforts, I'm still not happy with the control. I know ms1 isn't great at clbc. Changing to ms3 isn't warranted, this is the only issue I have with ms1

Ive been thinking....

Plan is to plumb in a second boost control solenoid, teed off the actuator > solenoid hose.

This is normally closed, so just one solenoid is operating off the open loop map.

However, if I press the dash button, and that supplies 12v to the second solenoid, that too will operate at the same frequency as the existing one. By adding a restriction to the vent on this second solenoid, I can control the magnitude of the second solenoid effect.

My question is, will the standard circuit control the two solenoids if the earth's are both connected together? If not, do I duplicate the circuit on the proto area, with both circuits being triggered by the same ecu pin?

Or, isn't it as simple as that?

The plumbing, switch and effectiveness tuning isn't my probl, but overloading the existing circuit or trying to trigger 2 from the same ecu pin is a concern.

Any advice on that is welcomed. :)

It depends on the circuit that's been added to control the first solenoid and what the current draw is.

From the standard circuits, I'd expect adding a second solenoid would work fine.

Thanks James. I'm away until tomorrow so don't have all the details here, but it's just the standard simple circuit from the manual. Wired to an N75 Vw solenoid valve.
