Edis interferes FP relay ??

Post by mitsuko »

Here's a little problem I don't really know how to solve .

MS1 V2.2 , extra 029y4a
Edis installed , but no coil packs connected yet .
Ign will remain stock until the fuelmap is dialed in so for now I'm using edis only
to generate the tachsignal

If I turn on the ignition :
The main relay cliks and stays on as it should .
The FP relay also clicks and switches off after abt a second .

But If I connect my edis module after a second the fuel pump relay very briefly cuts out
and immediatly comes on again .
And the rpm gauge on the laptop goes over 10.000rpm for a split second , then back to 0 .
That cycle repeats itself over and over again .
Wich is , needles to say not as it should .

Disconnecting the edis 12V or the pip signal makes the problem go away .
Cranking withg the module connected shows a 300-ish rpm wich I think is right on .
Can't start the car , as my fuelpump isn't installed yet .

Any thoughts ?

Oh and btw here's a picture of my trigger wheel . Machined directly into the crankshaft pulley .
There was a pulley to drive an AC compressor , sadly I don't have an AC on that car so I used it to
cut some teeth .

I've no idea how an EDIS module would react to being powered up with no coils. It might well do strange things.

I' most certainly not the first one to use an edis to generate the tach signal
and dial in the fuelmaps prior to adding the coils .

I'm gonna try to power the edis from another source then the fp relay .
Allowing it to remain powered while the ms shuts the FP down , see if that makes a difference .

The EDIS module needs to be powered from MAIN relay, not FP relay.

I figured as much .

But looking at this diagram it's clearly wired off the fp relay .
Ofcourse it says coil and not edis , hence my confusion .

I'll rewire ittomorrow , should be ok then .

The COIL should be powered off the FP relay. The EDIS module should be powered off the main relay. The coil and the EDIS module are two different devices.
Temporarily shut down - back soon!
