V3.0CAS troubles(Thread name changed(new thread started))

Post by jompa_a »

Thread name changed. The topic were originaly about wheel decoder and trigger settings.

Hi everyone.

I'm helping a friend with his skyline. There is a vr and 36-1 trigger on the crank.
Running wasted spark.

The sensor lines up with the 6th tooth when tdc. So that is counting from the missing tooth.
From what I understand, do the sensor need more crank angle? like 120degrees?

The sensor is under 1mm clearence form the trigger wheel.

I have tried using the excel sheet to get the right angles and teeth, but to no avail.

So, what am I doing wrong?

We have tried to gap it closer than .5 mm. Still nothing.
We ditched the vr and went back to the original nissan cas. Bought diyautotunes replacement disc.
We are still having huge issues. I'm starting to believe that I'm stupid.
All new wires. With shielded for the rpm signal.
Wired white/pin 3 - 12v positive, black/pin 4 - ground, green/pin 1 - trigger in/ms pin24.
When we are mesauring on the cas we get absolutely nothing. Tried two different units, of witch one is brand new.
What voltages am I locking for? 0-5v?

I'm at a loss. I have no idea what to do next.

Some inputs would be nice.

Am I mesuring correct if I mesure volt on the trigger out from the cas, with 12v and ound connected.
Noticed that the volts off of the trigger get a bit funky when the housing isnt grounded. As in, it changes if you touch the housing.

Both the new and the used cas is broken. As i thought.
Got another to try with and it worked right away.

Lost the trigger again.. It worked for about 20 min.
Started to use the trigger logger to fine tune the signaland then all of a sudden its gone...
Mildly frustrating.

It's one of these things were a scope is so useful. To see what the signal from the sensor looks like - both in to the VR circuit at Tach Sel and out of it at Tsel. If it is a VR sensor, it's rare for those to fail, unlike a hall effect.

You first need to make sure you have decent stable pulses going to the MS processor, before even considering anything else. In other words, the hardware must work correctly before the software can do anything.

Thats the thing. We started with a solid (not perfect) signal that we could work with in the trigger log.
The nissan cas is an optic sensor that give pulses like an hall.
Either way, the cas is dead. Well not completly dead. It gives pulses between 0.00 and 0.03 volts.
I hve a feeling that the gremlings are at war.

From what I understand, they are 12v in a get a signal out. Are they grounded to the chassis or sensor ground?

Nissan CAS

8v - 12v Supply
Ground to ecu Signal ground
Output signals with 5V pullups

Hope this helps.

The owner did not want to spend any More time on the opto cas.
Se sent back to be again. No luck, hur I think the teeth on the trigger shell arent deep enough. They are only about 3mm.

I am starting a new thread on this topic because this thread got very confusing to read.
