Had Throttle Response, then......

Post by Mitch_c »

Car is a blown Big Block Chevy street car with Wide band O2 sensor. Doing fuel management only.

Last season we had the tune near where we wanted it... Car would start, idle, cruise and accelerate.

This year, it started well, idled, but no throttle response (big lag and backfired once). We checked the TPS and it was not responding smoothly, so we replaced it, calibrated it, but still bad throttle response when we tried to blip the throttle.

No changes, other than the TPS calibration, was made to the software settings.

We have no idea where to start... Only thing I saw was the O2 sensor readings were now shown in RED...

Before trying any changes....what would cause the RED O2 readings? What should the readings be?

I suspect a log and tune file are in order here.

A failed Wideband O2 controller here the output goes full to one extreme or the other could cause the readings to be above the threshold for the gauge to show up red in TS, a disconnected O2 input wire could be the problem, or a shorted O2 signal wire also an incorrect selection of type of O2 sensor could also cause this.

Check the voltage output of the Wideband O2 controller, also the input of the O2 signal to the MS to be sure the hardware is working the way it should be.

Thanks for the suggestion concerning the O2 Sensor...

We'll check the readings, then make sure that the correct O2 sensor is still correct.

Throttle lag will be pursued after checking the sensor..

Attached are 2 log files. A long pull log to 5K and an acceleration log with a couple of quick raps.

The long pull dies when you lift the throttle and the acceleration file has results when you quick stab a couple of times....stumbling.

The O2 sensor connections appear ok , but I know of no way to "test" the sensor (heater portion works). O2 is a Bosch wide range heated sensor.

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.
