Extra daughter Card Questions

Post by Midnite Racer »

Hi,

I have been reading post after post for a few weeks now about all the great feature MSnS extra offers.

I am Planning to get a V3 board within a couple of weeks.

Whilest reading about *errors board i got a bit lost.

1 If i added a Daughter card i take it i can still use the outputs on the V3 board as well?

2 So where does the Daughter board connect in?

3 how many outputs does the daughter card need from the V3 to drive it?

i want to add control for (over time)
1 fuel
2 EDIS and dwell
3 boost control
4 Nitrous control
5 Dual tables
6 shift lights
7 water injection
8 Fan control
9 Knock sensing
10 Broadband O2
11 EGT sensing

is this at all possible or what are my limits...

Sorry to lay this lot on you any thought greatfully accepted i,m trying to get everything straight in my head before i buy so i can get the right parts or decide which things are more important to my needs..

thanks

Sorry not to be more help but.Go here.
http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/index.html
Look up all the options you want and look at what processor pins drive and or recieve for the option.Look for any conflicts and then if you see any decide which function you need most.
Find the Manuals up top under Quick links: Manuals. :RTFM:

If you go to the front page of the extra web site, you can scrooll down and you will see a couple of illustrations, one is for V2.2, and the other is for V3.00, the illustration shows exactly which connnection is what to the daughterboard. a few of the items on your list are general Megasquirt items, this is part of a normal Megasquirt setup with no connection to the daughterboard.

So, here's the illustration for V3.00 -

Image

Here's your list -

1 fuel - Normal Megasquirt function
2 EDIS and dwell - Setup per - http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra ... dware.html
3 boost control - JS2 - http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/boost.html
4 Nitrous control JS9 and JS1 - http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/nitrous.html
5 Dual tables - JS9 - http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra ... witch.html
6 shift lights - JS7 and JS8 - http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/shiftlight.html
7 water injection - JS1 - http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/waterinj.html
8 Fan control - JS0 - http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/outputs.htm
9 Knock sensing - JS10 - http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/knock.html
10 Broadband O2 - Normal Megasquirt function
11 EGT sensing - JS4 - http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/egt.html

notice you have a few items that use the same connections, you will have to choose between one or the other. For instance, you can't have Table switching, water injection and Nitrous all at the same time.

Oooo, another nice pic there and good info.

If you go back a page or two, there is a post where I was asking about this stuff, and Scott put some pics up that showed the equivalent v3.0 and v2.2 outputs, and a driver circuit example. It's really helpful to know that, since the info on the -extra website is mostly still v2.2 pinouts.

You know there's a line between "Official B&G" and "third party firmware" in the forums here, including all the instructions...Ect. are written just for "Official B&G" now if someone goes out and makes firmware that does something different, the rules are, that that person, or a delegate has to support that "Third party" firmware independently. Really that's the only way to do it, how can Lance keep up with all this independant development from so many different places. Sure you have James and Phil's MSnS-extra firmware, which is in constant development, but you have about ten different guys all going in a diiferent directions on MS2 with new features on that platform. Still only the firmware put out by Bruce and Al are going to be written up in the assembly and added to the "official" code list.

That said, theres only so much time in a day for James and Phil to write stuff up and make web pages, So sometimes to make it easier for me, and to help out others here, I make up little diagrams that show in a graphical way how to do something. These diagrams are sometimes added to Lance's or James's web sites when the need arises, but mostly I present them here for everyone to scrutinize. That picture is not mine, it was taken straight off the MSnS-extra web site.

Yep, look at the Picture, It says "or" that means one "or" the other but not both. Makes no difference what the daughterboard allows, you can't have more functions than what the firmware and MCU hardware can provide at one time.
