Ford EEC-V to MegaSquirt adaptor board, I need your input.
Hello all,
I am starting on the design of the new adaptor board specifically for Ford EEC-V equipped vehicles. EEC-V has a large single connector on the ECU, with 104 pins on the connector. Usually found on Ford cars and trucks 1996 to 2003.
There are a few details that need to be worked out before the board makes it to production.
1. Features of the board.
The board will need to be bigger due to more nets on the board, It may have VB921 drivers and VR input on it to give it wheel decoder functions, or an exra connector for hookup to an external EDIS module? preference?
2. Enclosure options.
What kind of enclosure should be used, this is a big problem, I think there are a couple different form factors in the Factory enclosure. I have two EEC-V boards right now, one is the exact same size as the old EEC-IV, and the other is slightly bigger. Do I make it a size to fit one of the OEM enclosures, or go with an aftermarket enclosure? maybe just standoffs and plastic sheet covers?
3. Vehicle support.
Right now, looking at sales of the EEC-IV board, there is about a 50-50 split between Overseas (mostly UK) 4cylinder applications, and US domestic V8 application, specifically the Mustang. Input is needed as to what features all these different EEC-V ECU's have and common ground between the them.
4. Your input is needed
If you want to Megasquirt your EEC-V vehicle this will allow you to keep your stock harness and still have a plug and play Megasquirt.
Post your car's configuration, including but not limited to -
Year of manufacture.
Engine type and cylinders - I.E. V8, I4, I6, V6, V10.
Ignition type - I.E. COP, or Wasted spark.
EEC schematic or pinout - text format or XLS format, JPG attachment OK.
There will be a short Beta period where boards will be available to a few users for testing, this will hopefully wring out any major problems with the design before general production. I hope to have BETA boards out by the end of month so get your input in now.

An extra connector is no big deal... If it makes it more configureable, then great! One thing I would like to see is a dedicated connector that would go out to an EEC-V connector so that you can bypass the MS and let the stock ECU control the stuff that MS can't in a piggyback configuration. That connector would have all the shared signals and basicly look like the engine to the ECU.MegaScott wrote:1. Features of the board.
I would go with an aftermarket enclosure. In my case, I'll have to keep the stock ECU, and I think that's probably the case with a lot of installs, especially those with auto trannys.MegaScott wrote:2. Enclosure options.
Can't help you there... I can get you Zetec-specific information but I wouldn't be able to compare it to anything!MegaScott wrote:3. Vehicle support.
On the way... I'll get that stuff together this weekend.MegaScott wrote:4. Your input is needed

If the board comes out in similar fashion to the EEC-IV adaptor board, then I guess you can.78Spit1500Fed wrote: One thing I would like to see is a dedicated connector that would go out to an EEC-V connector so that you can bypass the MS and let the stock ECU control the stuff that MS can't in a piggyback configuration. The board is jumper based, so you jumper the pins to their equivalent MS pins.
So for anything you wish to control via the EEC-V (or EEC-IV even), you just route to a female socket.
I know what you mean though - a dedicated port for doing so - like the V2.1 EEC-IV board does to use the EEC-IV to control the auto box.
Geared Ghia - UK Ford Escort 1800.
Thanks guys for the input, I'll see what size boxes are available, maybe if I can get the right size and design the board right you may be able use it with either dedicated enclosure or the stock enclosure.
This board will have at least two additional connectors, one for the Megasquirt of course, and the other for a piggyback ECU and WB02, EDIS, switch input, shift lights.......
At a minimum I need ECU pinouts, I can do comparison, the board will most likely be a true BOB style board with all the pins going out to pads so the user can jumper in what is needed. To keep the jumpers to a minimum all the common signals for Megasquirt will be hard wired, same as the current EEC-IV board.
The board will probably be on the order of 5.5" wide by at least 4.0" deep. The biggest problem is the size of the EEC connector, I could go with a board size the same as the current Megasquirt board, but the connector would have to go on the side of the box. hmmm...
Hopefully there is some area to do some extra stuff, the extra stuff doesn't cost any more as far as the board is concerned, but gives you more options.

So what you are saying is that maybe some O2 simulators and a few injector resistors? Hmm I think I would have to work on that on the bench to be able to "simulate" the engine to the point where the ECU won't be throwing any codes, staying closed loop so the tranny works properly. I can see maybe simulating almost everything except PIP so you get consistant shifts.78Spit1500Fed wrote: That connector would have all the shared signals and basicly look like the engine to the ECU.

Paul, I think you are mixed up, this thread is for EEC-V.paulgrs2 wrote:Jumper pad on pin 53 please
The next version of the EEC-IV board has jumpers on almost all the EEC pins, including pin 53, plus a few other enhancements due to suggestions from users, including yours.
See the top secret preview here - http://megascott.homeip.net/EEC-IV%20Adaptor/V2.0/
The new EEC-V board will be similar to this except some added features for ignition control.
Well now is the time to tell me what you guys and gals want on the board. The majority of the board will be the same or similar to the EEC-IV V2.0 board I am proposing here. http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?t=18437
See the Proto Area? I think for the EEC-V board there needs to be some VB921 drivers there, whadya think?
There's room for at least 4 coil drivers.
I have collected some schematics for 4.6 Mustangs with EEC-V and a few eurosedans with Zetec and EEC-V, looks like the standard signals are the same, except for the injector drivers and a few oddball signals which will be on jumper pads.

Hi
Been meaning to post here for ages but was to busy buliding a IV board.
I have a ford TIS program which lists the wiring of every model sold in the uk in the last ten years. Sure this could be of use to this project, they are avalible cheap off ebay (99p i paid) or i could send you a copy of mine

I'm typing up all the varients of the UK Ford EEC-IV, EEC-V and Misc connectors used. (Misc being Weber [Cosworth], MECS [Probe] and Nissan ECCS [Maverick])
So far online is '91 onwards Escort/Fiesta
Link on the V2.0 adapter post.
If theres a particular model needed, tell me and I'll do that one asap.
Geared Ghia - UK Ford Escort 1800.
OK here we go.
What it is - EEC-V to Megasquirt Adaptor board.
What it does - It adapts the Stock Ford EEC-V 96'-03' EEC-V Vehicle harness to the MegaSquirt ECU.
The adaptor Board is almost completely Generic, it should fit virtually all Fords with the EEC-V ECU world wide.
Features -
Breakout pads for all 104 connections, (less Grounds)
Provisions to jumper SAW and PIP.
Full on board DIS COP 4Cylinder Spark capability with MSnS-Extra firmware using a VR sensor conditioner and 4 on board VB921 coil drivers.
Four (4) Aux Relay Coil drivers with LED status indicators.
Two (2) Aux Switch inputs (+12V Activation) with LED status indicators.
Knock sensor conditioner
9x11 Proto area for adding your own home brewed circuits. (EGT or whatever) 5V, 12V, and ground pads nearby for use in powering circuits on the proto area.
25 Pin Male Aux connector , all 25 pins terminate at Jumper pads So you can run any signals to the board. Common uses are WB Controller Hookup, and Piggyback ECU connections, External EDIS module hookup.
37 pin male connector for connection of a jumper cable to connect to the MegaSquirt. Allows the use of an un-modified Relay board cable commonly available from the normal MegaSquirt Vendors.
New High current PWM Idle circuit requires no Megasquirt jumper.
Saw Pullup Resistor Connection for use with an External EDIS module.
Jumpers for SAW and PIP to support GEN1 EEC-V with external EDIS and European applications.
EEC-IV form factor fits all EEC-V cases with little or no modification of the case, the aluminum EEC case can be easily modified to fit the board in most cases.
Picture of the board layout -
Edit - The board will be in Beta test soon, and barring any unusual problems, should be in production in about 2 weeks.

this is great! I'll be ordering one as soon as they are available. Right now I'm back to factory ECU control because my MS adaptor harness connections were too finicky to be trusted. This board will solve that problem forever

The new EEC-V adaptor boards are in. I would like to send a few off for testing.
The board has some changes/improvements from the design shown above. First, the VR is fixed to reflect the added Resistor. Second, there are now 8 spots for High current ignition drivers. Third, the ignition drivers are all HCT125 buffered.
The next 4 posters to this thread will get a free EEC-V adaptor board. The only condition is that you must post here at least one more time to tell of your experience building the board.
Post here, e-mail me your postal address, and I'll send you one straight away.
It's a $25 value, and it's free so post now!!

I think you should wait until the GPIO comes out, or use another aftermarket tranny controller(if there is such a thing for the 5R55E). The adaptor board has a pass through connector you can wire up to control your tranny using your stock ECU, but I wouldn't recommend it for beginners. Are you sure the ECU controls the cruise control?tsupra wrote:so this should work for a 99 4L V6 ranger with an auto tranny? would I still have cruise control? or would the stock ecu have to remain in place and share stuff with the board?

Gary, I'll send you one if you want. no worries mate!!

Megamucke,
I am sending you a board!! you are the first one!! Three more to go.......
geht Deutschland!!
actually i have no clue as to if the ecu controls the cruise or not. i never got around to getting the factory repair manual so i don't have access to a wiring diagram.MegaScott wrote: The adaptor board has a pass through connector you can wire up to control your tranny using your stock ECU, but I wouldn't recommend it for beginners. I count on one of those DIY repair books.
They say that my modell is a EEC-V.
@Scott
Please wait with the board I will check this first.
