uPIC based MegaView - revisted
Some may or may not remember I was working on this a while ago.
The project sank into the background, but never forgotton, as I worked on it every now-and-then.
Just as a reminder:
- It's project name is MegaVision, (as a final name, it might stick as that).
- It uses a 128x64 graphic LCD default, final version should allow users to choose the screen type they want either by jumper for a few common displays or by code.
- Theres a JTAG on the PCB and for in-situ programming of blank PIC. Programmer to do so is uber-simple too!
- 8 I/O - 4 used for buttons, the remaining 4 can be used as outputs or binary (non-analog) input (more buttons, etc)
I started off with the 16F877 40pin pic, but will upgrade it for more ram to do some better graphic code (gauges, etc) (I'll try use a direct pin-for-pin compatible PIC, so those with lesser LCD's can use the cheaper PIC with the graphic gubbin removed)
It's a home brew thing, so I doubt boards will be mass-produced for those wanting them, but I'll release all bits & bobs to make it.
It doesn't write to the MS yet, but reads MSnS_Extra data fine and I'm sure being written in PICBASIC Plus, many people can add support for their screen/projects very easily (or get me to ).
Anybody interested, is there anything that could be useful to add, etc?

Yes! absolutely! This is great EstateAgent!
I'm not the man for doing any programming, but i'd really like to have one in my car!
Some things I'm not satisfied with megaview, will probably be fixed here..
I don't like the scrolling values, i'd like to PRE-define what values to be shown.
I'm probably gonna route the buttuns to my steering wheel, but i haven't found the solution yet.

Any news about this?

Yeah, been working on the PCB side of things atm. I realised how much code i've lost since a crash a few months back, so just been quite as i've been getting my head down and cracking oneMTea wrote:Any news about this?
Noticed the threads been moved - confused me at first, but can see why

I was a little confused me too!
I'm looking forward to see more of this! do you have any pics and/or info you wanna share with us?

Will do, I'm making up the (physical) prototype this week.eMTea wrote:I was a little confused me too!

I've had the circuit emulated and talking to the MS, now its just coding it to do something useful.
I did have a lot more code, but lost a fair amount. Though it's a given oppertunity to rethink the code
Currently I've added a MS firmware detector, but soon i'll need runtime samples. Already have MSnS_Extra runtime (which compared to the MegaView code, the data is pretty much the same).
Tomorrow i'll probably either do the 12x12 grid code or gauge code.
Once the code takes a more robust form, i'll stick it up on the net.

I'm really looking forward to see this in action. Do you have a link til a panel/display you can use with your "MegaView".

Now with all the old laptops I got... why didn't I think of THIS ONE?coyoteboy wrote:.... I've resorted to de-casing my laptop and mounting it in my dash, including the 12" LCD

And dont forget - if you run pivot pro rotate software you can run the screen in portrait mode and it fits nicely where my old stereo and cup holders went, displaying your current tunes AND megatune lol Only problem is the power supply - either needs an inverter running all the time or a DC-DC converter. I'm running an inverter for now but may switch.

I've thought of this one a couple of times... I have several old Toughbooks with the touch screen!!!coyoteboy wrote:I will be fairly impressed to see this with a nice graphic display. I've resorted to de-casing my laptop and mounting it in my dash, including the 12" LCD
I already use one in the car as a MP3 player!
If I had room for the screen I'd do it in a heartbeat!
I also toyed with the PIC/MS adapter but I don't know enought about it and it peetered out. Do you guys have any sites with info as I'd like to revive it and move forward as I have several surplus houses around and I get all different types of displayes for dirt cheap, but have no way or idea on how to impliment it!
Thanks!

is this idea still alive?

I am pretty sure this is the idea/project that spawned this beatuy of engineering!!! http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/lcda ... p-167.htmlctcorp wrote:is this idea still alive?

Lol yeah pretty much... I use a Dell Inspirion Mini10v to tune with now in fact. It almost fits in my glovebox even! I am so tempted to moddify my glovebox slightly to make it fit....

Small scale solution = GLCD (can be a touch screen interface) and a micro-controller connected to ms via usb or DB9.
