keep up the good work. Ive been keeping an eye on this thread for a while. And its only just become active again.. Must say, im most impressed with whats going on.
Just a word of encouragement.

Not that it matters, but id love to test it out / help any way possible.. I have a yamaha TRX850 (2cyl parallel, 270deg crank, so basically V-twin) engine thats got MS2v3 extra 2.0.1 on it, which im quite prepraed to test on.. It doesnt currently have any knock sensing. But ive been waiting for something to happen.. I have a good spot i can fit something on to test.. If it ever gets that far

frigging amazing, I'd like to say hurry up and release it, but I don't want to sound pushy ;)

Looks awesome!

Hey guys, I have been following this thread for a while now. I was eager to build the original circuit and try it out, but some were having minor issues with the initial schem and were having to make minor adjustments and additions to the original design. So I decided to wait until a solid design was settled upon that would work for everybody, every time. Now the thread has taken a bit of a turn and is leaning to the dedicated IC circuit, witch I like. The thought of actually having a user interface for the knock circuit is way cool.

But...............I am at the point where I need a knock circuit now! I have a small board made up with the much older circuit that was posted in the Megamanual years ago, And I also have a circuit designed based on this threads proposed circuit, ( with some of the recommended mods ). But before I send the board off to be made I would love it if a revised schem could be posted that includes all known fixes or recommendations. For example, the original schem had 10uf caps installed on pin 5 of the 555 timers, it was suggested that these be changed to 100uf by one source, and yet another source reported adding a tant cap to these as well. But I have yet to see a revised schem that incorporates these changes. I am building a small board to go on a motorcycle, and as it is almost 100% SMT I want the circuit to work right the first time 8)

h22,

Most importantly of all, ensure that you have the operational amplifier connected in the manner shown in my schematic, as it simply cannot work in the configuration shown originally. Please ignore the posts that suggest otherwise.

Demonstration using knock signal...

t would seem if you could monitor RPM via the trigger signals, you could do windowing pretty easily, a little circular buffer, and you'd only need one number to describe when you're masking events

Abefm can you explain this circular buffer concept...Cheers!!!!

Hoodey, I think we chatted about the circular buffer offline, I hope it made sense, and would be willing to go in more detail via email (somehow certain discussion here seem to be counter productive).

To the guy who needs knock sensing NOW - look up the KnocksenseMS - made by a guy in Canada, Borris, he'll treat you right. Easily 50, likely hundreds of people use his board (including myself) and it's certainly good enough.

We can do much better, but to get running today, use that!

I don't mean to offend anyone, but could we start some new threads on this topic? (or possibly a subforum?) This thread (IMHO  ) should be sticking to the design and development of dfabro's circuit or others operating in a similar manner. All this development of knock detection with microcontrollers and IC's designed for detecting knock is wonderful and (again, IMHO) the future of MS knock detection however, this thread has been led somewhat astray from the origional topic. I'm afraid that the progression of all these great ideas is confusing some people. dfabro had a great concept of a circuit that we could all build with cheap parts that are available locally and it seems that for those who need knock detection ASAP, this is a superb solution. (Of course, I mean no offense to Boris. He sells a great product but its not in the MS budget for a some of us)

Anywho, I pulled up my schem and layout (modified dfabro's passive filter schem) from page 2 and I realized that the pinout of the npn trannies were backwards in my version of eagle :? . It took a lot of time to identify that fault. Pins 1 and 3 need to be swapped i.e. flip the transistors around 180*. I also neglected to add pads and labels to the layout for certain things. I have corrected the transistor orientation on my prototype so hopefully I can turn on the tacho pin and test it today. If it does happen to work then expect a full updated layout with schem and notes and pics.

Hey what happened to all my post? I've done a lot of research to offer info on this thread. Was there something I done wrong? or was this done on accident?

It was an accident - several months of posts got lost in a database error. They've put in better backup plans to make sure it won't happen again.

This is the latest update.

I have upgrade to a 4x20 Lcd as the 2 line was becoming a bit cramped

I have sent a quatoe to polycase to build a case for the device.
