Re: USB datalogger
You mean the usb port on the MS 3 only exports data?
I was wondering if I would connect my RS232 to USB cable with the usb side in the MS3 and the RS232 side in the data logger that it could work that way?

Re: USB datalogger
A USB-serial converter won't convert the data from an MS3 USB port to serial data. Both the chip inside a USB-serial converter and the USB chip inside an MS3 ECU (the same kind of chip, actually) are USB devices; they can only communicate with USB hosts, not with other USB devices.Vanhoe wrote:You mean the usb port on the MS 3 only exports data?
No, unfortunately that wouldn't work.Vanhoe wrote:I was wondering if I would connect my RS232 to USB cable with the usb side in the MS3 and the RS232 side in the data logger that it could work that way?
Re: USB datalogger
Do you think that with a bluetooth dongle I could connect wireless to a tablet or laptop that has bluetooth from the MS3 ?
I did found a USB to DB9 converter sheme :

Please re-read Symtech's comment.

Re: USB datalogger
Huey can comment on whether or not that will work with his datalogger, but from the MegaSquirt side of things, it should work fine as long as you use the serial port and not the USB port.Vanhoe wrote:Ok no usb to serial

Re: USB datalogger
So what is comming out of the usb port on the megasquirt, if I understand to connect with usb cable to laptop the same as before with the DB9.
So why not use an usb bluetooth dongle to transport wireless to a bluetooth device like tables where de shadow dash can be used.
Please explane the problem to me, I don' t understand firmware langueges or software so please confirm that it is possible to send the signals from the usb port, or never will be possible and the reason why.
Again thanks for your patience with my questions.

Re: USB datalogger
You need to use google to understand the difference between a USB host and a USB device. The USB port on an MS3 and on a USB-serial adapter is a USB device.

Re: USB datalogger
The USB datalogger will not work with the MS3. The software on the data logger doesn't support the MS3 data stream at this time and I don't see any real reason for this being that MS3 already has a data logging feature. Furthermore, the connection would have to be serial. You might also want to take a look at this ----> http://tunerstudio.com/index.php/shadowloggerms
Hope this helps.

I tried to make it MS3 compatible but came up short on talent modifying the code. I still see a use for it even with ms3

Re: USB datalogger
Having some issues and not sure how to troubleshoot.
Several questions-
1) when adding a firmware signiture will the new signiture be added to the list??
Trying to add
Sig- MS2Extra Serial312
A
169
Unit seems fully operational- Have good comms with hyprterminal @115200
Loaded the new VDIP1 firmware, set logger to 115200
Place dummy file on usb stick to see if I can read through hyperterminal. Can see filename with usb access through hyperterminal, deleted test file. I assume this means I don't have a flash drive issue?
Tried sw4 in both positions.
LED3 flashes when in autolog, starts flashing when not in autolog and Log sw is pressed. Confirmed log and mark working through hyperterminal.
I have yet to create any sort of log file on my usb drive. Drive always blank.
Dip1-ON
Dip2-off
Dip3-ON
JP1-bridged (I added the 3.3v reg)
Jp2-open
JP3-Shorted
Jp4-open
I don't have a JP5 or a Q2 on my board.
Rev .11b firmware
Procedure-
Power up logger. Then power up MSII.
Any suggestion appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

Up and running now. was unable to add MS signiture with hyperterminal. Added to firmware, compiled.
Working great. What a cool little board.

Re: USB datalogger
Hi,
I have updated the firmware to support the ms3 newserial format that is used on MS2 3.30 beta 12 and up
0.3.0 130505
- Support for MS3 newserial with CRC32 only, older serial use 0.2.1
- All known signatures are shown with their CRC32 values in hex
- Show command syntax with CRC32 in hex
- Option to save last session CRC32 fail counter to NVRAM, no save is done if no errors
0.2.1 121005
- Innovate valid count, err clear on stop, no Innovate write to buffer on error
0.2.0 120327
- Innovate logging
- Minor code and behavior tweaks
- AFR output option
I guess if requested buffsize is more than 255 (MS3?) that still is a problem, have not looked into that.

Re: USB datalogger
Hi
i have two of Huey`s dataloggercards, the cards are brand new and not used or built.
They are just laying around, i will sell both together as a one package (since i dont have time to drive to the postoffice all the time).
The price would be 66$ + shipping wich is the same i gave for them.

Re: USB datalogger
Hi all loggers!
Recently I was looking a bit more into the logged files and noticed that the overall sampling rate was slower than it should be,
down to 5 samples/second. Long story short, the current crc32 calculations (existing lib) is very slow and limiting the USB logger.
I have also noticed that when comparing logg files in MegaLogViewer it doesn't compensate for different sampling rates and very
often during startup of the logger it would get stuck when trying to restart the engine so therefore I have made this upgrade for the
logger available with the following changes since 0.3.0:
0.4.0 160508
- File is closed/opened after requested samples (standard 100) to make sure file is saved in
case of power failure or other error. LED2 alternate for each write. Enter 0 to disable
- Read delay between samples changed to Target samples/second (standard 20)
Setting target at 20 and save rate of 100, file is saved to USB every 5s
- No CRC32 check on loggdata, with CRC32, 5 samples/second, without CRC32 25-30 samples/second is possible
CRC32 checks is used for signature data and is checked only that it is available during logging
- Startup delay fixed 15s (all LED on) before trying to init anything, press logging or mark sw to bypass,
When all init is done ok and ready to log, flash all LED twice
- Improved indication of marked record on LED2 during logging
- Auto logging tweaks:
Auto logging can be switched on by software override (default off, hardware only)
- If auto logging on:
- logging is started after auto logging delay
- when stopped with log sw, after auto logging delay (default 180s), logging restarts
- logging restart is possible to enable/disable (default off)
- setting auto logging delay to 0 will also disable restart but not first auto logging start
- during delay, press logging sw to start logging, press mark sw to disable auto logging (current session)
Tested with MS2Extra Serial 3.42a2 (firmware 3.4.2)
0.3.1 150921
- Fix:'wait_logger_ready' could cause loop to freeze with no led indicator
On error, LED3 flash error code followd by pause, see 'DatalogFRD' for error detail
Press logg sw to retry last command
Happy logging

Re: USB datalogger
And I thought this logger was dead. Good to see there is still interest. I'm currently working on a dash display over CAN and could add logging to it.
