I would absolutely love to add this the logger I got from you. :yeah!:

I didn't think that it would be too had for the propeller chip too display the data that it was receiving, but I have had no time to persue the idea.

my thought was on some sort of OLed display.

Huey, could this be used as a digital dash while data logging?

It would be best to use Tuner Studio on a PC for that. I was thinking more for off road use or maybe on a motorcycle using a small inexpensive video screen.

The reason I'm asking is that you don't know what the engine is doing while the data logger is running. There are no visual indicators ( gage's )
when you have the data logger connected. You can do either monitor the engine with a PC or data log not both at the same time.

Tuner Studio does data logging at the same time in the background.

I don't want the computer in my vehicle while I'm driving, also it distracts from my driving on the race track.
Thats why i'm asking.

Do you have a example of want you want? I could make the LED's programmable for indicators like a shift light or rich/lean indicator that you set parameters around.

I was planning on keeping it simple with just a text readout. It probably would't work to well in a racing application because most people are used to analog gauge positions rather than text. The Propeller chip is capable of graphics but I still think Tuner Studio could be modified easier with a small Netbook PC for your application. If text is all you need than sure it could be done.

I have made a optional upgrade of the current firmware 0.1.1b, the major addition is support to put the serial Innovate data stream into the FRD file:

Short summary of changes:

0.2.0 111109
Setting mode, general terminal compatible, works now with PST and HT
Innovate logging:
- Reads Innovate serial protocol, requires additional hardware (com port)
- Supports LC1 and other expansions (AI, EGT), LM1 not supported
- Check for valid telegram and values according to the protocol
- Convertes to FRD format and inserted at specified offset (for example as gpio)
In setting mode
- stream raw data from Innovate data port, show values in hex or binary
- stream converted databuffert, FRD telegram and real values

Moved MegaSquirt baud settings to RAM
Everytime before logging start check and wait until usb disk is present
Flashing LED 3 alternate for better visual indication at fast logging speed
All dip sw is only read during startup, to alter switch setting restart is required
Minor code tweaks

Logging features fine tuned:

If auto logging off:
- logging not started at power on, press logg sw to start
- if signature fail, it retries forever
- if com. timeout during logging, file is closed and logging stops
- to stop logging, press logg sw
- to start logging again, press logg sw

If auto logging on:
- logging is started at power on
- if signature fail, it retries forever
- if com. timeout during logging, it will close file and try restart if restart delay > 0s
- to stop logging press logg sw
- logging is optional started again after delay (default 15s, 0s for no restart)

dip switch_1 determines the mode of operation. on = logging mode, off = setting mode
dip switch_2 Innovate logging on/off (only during MS logging)
dip switch_3 Auto logging on/off

LED_1
- flickers during Innovate logging (when reciving valid data)
- flashing until first valid data from Innovate logging
- slow flash when waiting for USB to initialize
- after boot all led on and before USB init or during setting mode, shows baudrate ON=115200, OFF=9600
LED_2
- flashing for setting mode
- flashes when a file is marked during datalogging
- flashing while waiting for auto logging restart delay, ok to remove usb disc
LED_3
- flashing when waiting for valid Signature
- flickers on during datalogging

All LED's flash if a USB write error occurs. This will recover if during disk initialize, otherwise reset is required
All LED's on 5s during booting if all settings set to default

Optional hardware, one extra com port (you may also need the optional 3.3v IC):

If you have an interest in this firmware, please send a pm with email and I send it to you

Happy logging! :D

Great idea. It's good to see the expansion slot in use and also an addition to the logger :)

You have to manually sync the video and data.

Should work just fine. What firmware version are you running? Do you know the signature? Send me a message with your email address in it and I will send the BOM to you.

Thanks,

I have added some extra features to my previous add-on to the firmware:

Innovate logging
- Optional value count verification, enter 0 to disable (disables offset as well)
- Optional offset calibration (±127), 0 for no offset (only applied when value count is verified)

When in standby (not logging), press 'Q' to enter terminal mode
(also possible to enter data logging from terminal mode)

This makes it possible to make changes to settings and firmware options etc without open the box (if dip sw is inside).

Is anyone still offering this logger without requiring significant assembly or wiring? If so how much?
