Spark 'booster' (PNP circuit)

Post by Paul_VR6 »

The only coils I have seen that need a booster are vag. I think a good check is the signal to signal ground resistance. Over 500ohms it should be good with the std circuit.

Is there a schematic avaliable for this? I really want to use the Ms3x outputs to drive my VAG COP's, with this module mounted externally.. but it doesn't seem like they are avaliable for purchase.

Denso coils usually can work right off the MS3X spark otuputs.

Denso cops from the sti and wrx do not work off the bat. (well all 8 of mine did not)

you need to do this or something similar.

Hi James i am trying to drive a quadspark with a nissan RB20 ECU. Sounds like your booster would be ideal. Id like to buy a couple of units. Im in Australia, can you work out a price for 2 units shipped to Adelaide , South Australia. Regards Peter

I was thinking of the Toyota coils - Denso seems to make coils for everything, often with wildly different specs.

I can confirm that the Denso 4 pin pencil coils found on many toyota engines work just fine with standard MS3X ignition drivers. We have a car that has been running them for over 2 months and seeing 100 miles a day problem free.

Is there any documentation of this in the mega manual with a schematic? Or do we have to buy it directly through James?

Loose kit of parts w/o wires or regulator = £9 / $14.4
I'd like to buy one of those kits with shipment to Sweden. Do you have a paypal account or how should the payment be made?

Do contact me. I've been busy this week though, so haven't been replying to order PMs. I'll catch up over the weekend.

Hey... any chance you're considering a version of this unit that supports more cylinders?

I'd love to purchase one, but it needs about 25% more inputs and outputs to work on my engine! :)

If you made a 6-channel version, you could supply the Audi & Volvo 5-cylinder crowd, as well as all the people running COP/CPP on 6-cylinders and wasted-spark on 12.

There's not been a great deal of demand for the four channel version, so no plans to make other variants. You could always buy a few PCBs (and if you really want to save the space, just saw off the part you don't want?!)
