zeal engineering board outputs

Post by shaved240 »

so i have the board and it has the extra outputs. do the outputs just provide grounds? so if i wanted to set up an efan I would just run one of the outputs through a spare pin then just run that as ground on the relay?

That's correct, all of the general purpose outouts provide switched paths to ground.

The one exception is the tach output - the transistor switches a 12 volt pull up to ground. All others are simply grounded, including the IAC (which uses an uprated power transistor).

a few more questions here.

"The Zeal Engineering Daughterboard has three general purpose on/off outputs, suitable for driving a relay or a solenoid with power consumption of 1 amp or less"

so is the 1amp consumption only related to the solenoid. i know that the efan takes up a bunch of amperage, but if you are just running the ground from the zeal board to the relay it should be ok right?

so if i want to run a e-fan i would run a wire from the spare pin for the fan (x2) to the input and a wire from output to the db25 i'm using. is this correct?

Right - you can wire a relay where the relay's coil only draws 1 amp or less to the Zeal board (most relays don't draw more than that). But wiring the fan directly to the board would be another story.

I'm running megasquirt 1 v2.2 with the zeal engineering dual vr conditioning circuit.

so I have a little bit of a problem trying to get my efan control to work with the zeal board. So basically this is how my setup is wired:

-I have x2 running to input 2 on the zeal board
-then output 2 on the zeal board is going to a pin on a db25 that i added.
-the pin is then wired to 85 on a standard 30 amp relay.

I tested the relay and i'm getting switched 12v at 86 (iirc), 12v power on 30, and 87 is 12v power running to the fan and 85 is of course running from the db25 connector.

That should work - are you getting 5 volts from X2?

Yes I'm getting 5v when x2 is switched on. I've confirmed the 5v all the way to input 2 on the zeal engineering board. Now the output isn't seeing any voltage at all as I would expect.

Any suggestions guys?
