CAN-EGT
Anybody else using the new CAN-EGT from DIY?
I can't for the life of me get it connected to TunerStudio. It will find it over the USB cable but when I test the port it fails so I can't get it tom come online. I checked the dip switch's and they are all ON.

Re: CAN-EGT
Great! I also noticed my can connector doesn't seat all the way.
(Fixed) Just needed to open up the hole one size. Now the connector clicks in.
Still can't get connected though

Re: CAN-EGT
How are you trying to connect to it? Have you ever used CAN?
(A good time to implement can_scan Phil?)
I've skimmed the setup instructions for CANEGT and they seem a bit over-complicated for MS3.
EDIT: that was the first draft, looks simpler now. i.e. There's no need to 'add a CAN device' in TS. Just configure the MS3 to read it.

Re: CAN-EGT
In TunerStudio, if you create a project for the CAN-EGT and you want to communicate over the USB port, you need to activate the 'SERIAL' setting in the project properties. If you want to communicate over the CAN bus in passthrough then this needs to be deactivated.
But as James says, you don't need to add a CAN device or to configure anything on the unit to be able to read the EGT data; the default settings allow you to read them by simply configuring the MS3. Just follow the documentation to see what needs to be set.

Re: CAN-EGT
Got it up and running!
Thanks all
I attached my project folder to help anyone in the future so you don't have to start from scratch. It is set for USB connection to get things setup out of the car.

Sorry about that. I'll check the ones we have to see if any others have this issue and make sure they don't ship until it's fixed.Mario wrote:Great! I also noticed my can connector doesn't seat all the way.

Re: CAN-EGT
I'm just glad it works now My only complaint so far. It would be great if the CAN could have also been brought out on a header. Maybe use one with less pitch to squeeze 2 more connections? Or in a future revision of the MS3 add the mini jack for a straight plug and play connection

Re: CAN-EGT
Adding this to an MS3 case wouldn't be very difficult. You could then use a cable with a plug at both ends.
And if you'd connect 12V and ground on the MS3 side, you could power the CAN-EGT from that cable.

What did you do to make it work?Mario wrote:Got it up and running!
But you don't need a project for MS3....I attached my project folder to help anyone in the future so you don't have to start from scratch. It is set for USB connection to get things setup out of the car.

Re: CAN-EGT
I wanted to set it up without an ECU. I have 2 of them and will be shipping one to someone else.jsmcortina wrote:What did you do to make it work?Mario wrote:Got it up and running! But you don't need a project for MS3....I attached my project folder to help anyone in the future so you don't have to start from scratch. The USB was connected directly can-egt > computer and TunerStudio running. I tried to get it to connect for awhile not using a project but no luck (even with the recommendations from racingmini). So I started fresh and everything came together. Fulke, maybe. But I was able to connect to the second unit right away as well.

Re: CAN-EGT
I'm confused.
You say you don't want to use it with an ECU but the project you attached is an MS3 project with the CAN-EGT as a CAN device. If you want to use the unit as a standalone, you need to create a CAN-EGT project in TunerStudio and enable the SERIAL setting as I mentioned.
So I'm not sure what the problem was nor what exactly you did differently. Using the unit through CAN as an MS3 extension or using it as a standalone require different things. But in either case, very little should be needed to get the EGT data other than connecting the unit.

Re: CAN-EGT
I accidentally set the passthough while trying to get my LC-1 info up. Now I need to reload firmware but can't find it anywhere. Does anyone have a copy?

Re: CAN-EGT
Can you connect it to your MS3 temporarily? This way you can change the setting in CAN passthrough.

Re: CAN-EGT
I was able to get that done, thank you!
I probably sound pretty dumb right, but I promise I am not. Now I cannot get an AFR to display other than the error value for the LC-1 to be displayed.
On a side note It might be helpful for the CAN-EGT instructions to be broken out better for MS2 and MS3. Now it seems the instructions are intermingled and it's kinda confusing. If I'm off base disregard, but for a first time CAN user it's muddy water.
