4x EGT, LC-1, Accelerometer? Dash?
Hi there,
Been trawling the forums and struggling to put it all together.
Have an MS3X, long time user (2003?)
Requirements:
1) 4x EGT K probes. Red closed stingers from DIY.
2) I have an LC-1, could interface the serial connection, currently using 0-5V input into MS3X EGO.
3) Accelerometer?... not a must have, just curious on cost.
4) Permanent dash, have been using a Windows and/or Android phone with MSDroid/etc....
Thoughts:
5) There is a whole thread on the CAN-EGT on jbperf.com but no longer sold I think? is this the same as the DIY Autotune listed CAN-EGT (8 probe capable)?
6) Quad CAN-EGT would surely be cheaper... ?
7) TinyIOx with EGT and accel addon chips from DIY a good option?
There are a few Arduino type dash projects around. The RaceTech stuff is pricey. The problem with tablets is that they are not very permanent, don't turn on without pressing a button, etc... looking to semi-hardwire something. Any suggestions? I'd like to use a rather large screen ~7" or so.
Thanks in advance, even partial answers/suggestions most welcome. Cheers!

As far as I know there's just one CANEGT and is licensed from JBperf.
Some of the Race Technology dashes include an accelerometer and GPS. With the CAN options enabled they will broadcast that data and the MS3 can be set to receive it.

Re: 4x EGT, LC-1, Accelerometer? Dash?
Thanks James. Guess the quad egt option is discontinued then.
I ended up with 2x GPIO EGT kits as well.... so I could run 4xEGT with another 2 kits, bang them on a bread board in a new case with TinyIOx.
This would also let me run my LC-1 into TinyIOx, plus anything else later..
That leaves the dash...
Seen a neat Raspberry Pi 3 to 7" screen with full blown TS, but the Android tablets have advantage with load time.
I might get an OTG Y Cable and play around with tablet again.
Cheers.

Thanks Alfa. I did see that before and considered it.
I think for a smidgen less than your I can do TinyIOx plus egt kits as I already have some bits and 4 cylinder motor.
Yours be less mucking around though! Hmm..

The CAN-EGT+ is still available from JBPerf, but you have to PM/Email him for pricing/availability. They're not off-the-shelf like the Tiny IOX is. It's a nice board, I am mostly done wiring mine up. I selected to have 4 of the EGT circuits populated, so that's 4 EGT circuits, and 4 ADC inputs.
I was going to recommend a Raspberry Pi dash, but as you mentioned boot time is not ideal. Mine is just over 60 seconds from power on to full gauge cluster. I haven't put any work into trying to speed that up thought, that is running full Raspbian Jessie with no modifications to the code, other than autostarting TunerStudio. I would imagine that after that 60 seconds, it's more ideal as a dash than a tablet, but I can't say for sure since I don't have mine in the car yet.

Re: 4x EGT, LC-1, Accelerometer? Dash?
Thanks Ace, sounds like Jean is pretty busy. His 4 channel board would be ideal...
Looks like it would be a tight fit to put 4xAD595 chips on TinyIOx proto area but could extend with breadboard as such. I'm leaning towards this if can't get dedicated board above.
Re Pi idea,
Having TunerStudio would be great, and could always connect a USB keyboard in to the Pi to tune. Saves carrying a laptop. I've heard of boot times down to 15s or so with Pi which is pretty reasonable.
I have an OTG y cable on the way, so if I can get a tablet to charge and read MS at the same time I think that'll do. .
The Tasker app for Android looks like it can start an app (MSDroid/etc) upon battery charging... plus turn on the screen, etc. So I'm hoping that's the golden ticket.

Re: 4x EGT, LC-1, Accelerometer? Dash?
I've gotten my Pi down to a 22 second boot time from power on, to Tunerstudio being functional. That's 15 second to desktop, 7 second to boot TS. I can live with that, as long as I flip the switch on before I get settled in my seat, it probably takes 22 seconds to settle in and buckle my 6 point haha.
FYI this is aidadnj's TinyIOx, just to show how busy it can get. He's running:
2nd Oil Temp
Coolant pressure
Front Brake Pressure
Rear brake pressure
2nd AIT
3rd Map
EGT
Traction control potentiometer

Wow... brake pressures from ABS sensors?
UPDATED:
Ordered TinyIOx and 2xAD595's (already have two).
Thanks for everyones help.

I use this Buffered ±2g Accelerometer. Works awesome, affordable, analog. 2g is more than enough for my vehicles.

Re: 4x EGT, LC-1, Accelerometer? Dash?
That's great Jacky, looks ideal.
2G would be good.
I guess using 2G would mean you would need to mount it on that level, parallel with the ground.
If get the 3G sensor, then you could mount it 'on it's side', (on the firewall?) perpindicular with the ground and just choose the appropriate outputs.
Negative is if have all 3 outputs connected then require 3 spare ADC's rather than 2.
2G ~$23, 3G ~$35.
Thoughts?
