Coils and ignitors in Eurozone

Post by jsmcortina »

A good reference to a coilpack over here:
http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic ... 19#p390270

With manual updates currently underway, please could people post up their suggestions for coils and ignitors (and connectors) available within the Euro market.

Hi,

A well used wasted spark coil in Euro is this one :
http://www.oscaro.com/bobine-d-allumage ... 9122-689-p

Image

Renault reference is : 7700274008

If you google it you can find it for really cheap.

Dwell time is 3.1ms for 8A charge and can assume up to 9500 rpm. If you need more RPM you can use a 2.5ms dwell that charge it at 6A. This allow more rev and still work fine.

This coil is really easy to find in junkyard. Common brand are SAGEM, BERU, DELPHI, VALEO. It can be drive with Bosch MTR04 or any else IGN drivers (ex : BIP373)

Specs are :

Rpri = 0,4 ohm
Lpri = 3.93 mH
Rsec = 7,25Kohm
Lsec = (can't mesure it with my meter)
Lpss = 396,8 mH

Regards,
Manu

Hi,

I am using this one on several cars, both NA and turbo.
It is often found on Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat.

Bosch number: 0 221 503 025
Sagem number: 2526040A
Peugeot number: 5970.48

I use dwell time of 3.4ms.

Having looked into them somewhat, I do like the look of the VW/Bosch coils with built in ignitors. They are available new for about the same as an ignitor alone?!

I need to buy some for testing.

I know of an application's where the vw wasted spark coil has been used till over 700bhp on a boosted 2.0 before it started to blow out the spark. Only £25 on ebay...

AUDI SEAT SKODA VW IGNITION COIL PACK 032905106B , 032905106E , 032905106 NEW

I'm currently trying k20 cops but having some problems, if i can't solve them i'll use the vw coilpack

Do this coil also have buit-in IGBT? They don't have the same look than the one James speak about.

Yes, the two coils I mentioned are both logic level (i.e. have a built in ignitor.)

I wasn't able to find the 4x single fire coilpack at the breakers I went to. The 106B was readily available. I've had one sparking up to a simulated 24000rpm on the bench.

In wasted spark? That's not a lot of time for dwell and spark.

Yes wasted spark. A sensible limit would likely be 15000rpm.

That would still cover most applications. I wouldn't have thought wasted spark would be acceptable at that RPM but it's good that it is. What do you use for dwell and spark duration?

I assume that this is a "real" version of the coils but I wonder if one of the Chinese copies available on Ebay would also work as well.

I thought everyone's experience with the Bay of Fleas chinese knock-offs were pretty awful?

Anyway, the 106B is the Golf (and all its brethren) coil, right? I think I could find at least 10 of them at the closest breaker's, good to know they are good stuff. One will probably find its way into my engine bay soon.

Yeah, but I don't know if that's for any coil, these included, or if it was mainly for the LSx coils. I don't remember seeing anything on these ones specifically.

My reason for asking is that the Chinese knock-offs are quite cheap and the breakers is not an easy option for some.

3ms dwell, 1ms spark duration.

Here in Scandinavia getting parts from the breaker's is very easy, there are several webshop like services for used parts. http://finndel.no is one, http://www.bildelsbasen.se is another. Just find the part you need and order it, it will arrive at your doorstep in a few days. You have nothing like that in Canada?

These coils are fairly cheap new, even from reputable suppliers. I bought some used ones just to try out, they are dirty and on closer inspection they are cracked...

Found a whole bunch of them (in Germany):

http://www.pkwteile.de/ersatzteile-such ... =06A905097

Sort of hard to find data on them, any search drowns in chinese knockoff offers, these are 4 coils with ignitors in one package, correct?

Wiring is covered in the Hardware Manual for your Megasquirt.
