Any idea on the pricing of the hardware? I can't find any prices without requesting a quotation.

The IXXAT device costs a bit over 200€ which is quite OK. But if you want the IXXAT software you have to add another "0" :|

For more devices and software you can take a look here (German)

I bought the CAN analyser from Microchip. It is basic and the software crashes every so often, but a more reasonable price.

I've been happy with the PCAN-USB and with their free PCAN-View software

not as reasonable price as Microchip, but ~200€ is not too bad either.

With the Microchip unit make sure you are not on the very early software/firmware (1.2?)

The stable software and firmware we have is
GUI Version 2.0
USB Version 2.0
CAN Version 2.3

You will need the PicKit2 or better programmer to update the tool
This was a couple of years ago and we've not bothered to check if there is anything later

We use Softing tools for the heavy duty stuff http://industrial.softing.com/en/produc ... html#tab-1
