De-pin Ford EV1 style connector

Post by bytesandbolts »

Does anyone know how to de-pin one of the common EV1 style connectors you'd find under most european Fords at the scrapyard?

Looks like it has similar pins to the ones you'd find in the EDIS 4 3-way coil pack connectors too.

I've had a go at trying to feel the internal retaining latches by blindly poking with needles and some ATX de-pinning tools I have handy, but not had any success.

Just a thought , does the blue end cap press and latch in to retain the crimps? If so may be prise it out?

Using this one: Ripca 88040

Not cheap, but I was fed up with poking around needles and small screwdriver.
You can probably make one of an old screwdriver, but that takes some time.

I agree. The blue portion looks like a secondary lock.

The blue bit is an anti backout. These ford JPTs are slightly different to a standard JPT. You can use the standard JPT tool but you need to fight it a bit. Lift but don't remove the blue bit, it helps to guide the tool, you need to push it down deeper than feels comfortable. I'll be honest I've given up on trying to reuse the ford ones, it can be done, but they are easily damaged unless you have the correct tool and they dont accept the standard JPT contact so you need to reuse the wire and splice on to it which is best avoided. I have successfully depinned them to get heatshrink over the harness and put them back in though, so it can be done!
