M14x1.5 Coolant Temp Sensor

Post by MisterBLC »

Replacing K-JET with Microsquirt on a '80 Volvo 240 and looking to find a coolant temp sensor option that will easily replace the old K-Jet thermal time switch, which already has a nice M14x1.5 threaded hole in the head. Anyone have any recommendations for a coolant temp sensor that will thread in which they know the characterization for? A couple quick searches does find some Bosch sensors with the appropriate threads, but no info on their characterization.

Thanks!

It looks like it uses the standard Bosch temperature curve. The measured values at the temperatures listed in the spec sheet match the values in the temperature curve.

Datasheet:

Bosch Temperature Curve:

It also appears to use a Bosch 1 928 403 874 connector.

So it appears that the original linked sender was not readily avialbale in the US. But we found a second BOSCH sensor that is available in the us: Bosch 0 280 130 037. This has M14x1.5 thread and was available on Amazon, FCP, and several other places. Fits perfectly and was cheap at $20 or so. We measure the resistance and got:

Temp (F) Temp(C) Resistance (measured)
34 1.111111111 3590
70 21.11111111 2281
139 59.44444444 715
204 95.55555556 219
