MS2/Extra 2.0 beta flashing issues

Post by jsmcortina »

PLEASE vote in this poll - we need to understand whether this is a widespread issue.

To download MS2/Extra firmware you MUST use the download-MS2-firmware.bat file included in the zip. Do not attempt to use the original MS2 downloaders.

Test with the latest betas and if you have a problem also test with alpha20070610b. Then vote here.

Can load all firmwares fine, but only after I fiddle with my laptop. It has 2 COM ports, one in the base unit (Its a Compaq and has an extra MFU that has the floppy and DVD drive in it) and one on the laptop itself.

When you plug in the base unit, the one in the laptop itself shuts off. However, the one in the base unit gives me trouble under certain conditions. If the laptop is switched on and MegaTune isn't loaded, then MS won't boot. It also won't flash the new larger codes. It hangs halfway through. The one direct from the laptop doesn't have any of those issues, but I can't use it all the time because I need to run the base unit.

I hope that helps someone else, maybe either alter their settings or whatever.

NP with all versions tried from 0610a through to beta2. True com port on laptop (no USB-com adapter needed or tried).

Ya know, if the 64k problem is really limitted, why not just kind of do a "final 64k" version. Didn't MSII do something just like this for the early batch of CPU's that had less ram? That way if they don't want to just buy a new CPU, they can run the final 2.0 build, or they can buy a new CPU and continue on with the rest of us..

Given that the poll is 10:0 no problem at the moment, I don't think there is a real issue with the chip itself.

I'm sure he'll readily cough up 100% of the cost of the MS2/Extra code, ah that's because it is free.
How come you didn't vote?

oK SO On my laptop..

I am using the one on the back of the laptop itself... I have been using that one for everything MS related... This laptop has 2 bays in the front... one is my battery.. and the other is my cd rom drive... (I can swap drives from a floppy to the cd).

I have tryed a couple of the other ports and they all Fail to do anything at the begenning and have an error code that says com # .... cannot be opened...

I have tryed beta 4 today ...

inserting "-d","-dw" doesnt change a thing..... as a matter of fact..

inserting "-d" doesnt do anything

Inserting "-dw" I get an error that says, "Input file cannot be read.."

Im missing out on all the great recent stuff... like the map sampeling changes(With my engine off my mapDOT fluctuates 10 units/-10/10/-10...), and the nitrous control(I cannot even trigger it with PA0 because its broken in 610b).... this just suxxors.. j

I have tryed com ports 2-4 and they all had the same "couldn't open com" Error...

i Inserted the d, dw into the BAt file .. in front of -v4 , behind -v4. No -v4 .. d... dw... dw500.. all to no avail...

i wish i had a different lap top... or new someone that would let me use their laptop... rule out my laptop as being the problem... I dont want to think it is ... but it just does't make sense that im the ONLY one with this problem still.... WTF

I just tried the latest beta and it would not load. I used the following command (because the batch file didn't work - have to look at that later):

ms2dl ms2_extra.s19

and I got:

MegaSquirt Download 1.05

Reading ms2_extra.s19:
ms2_extra.s19
Detected MS-II (HCS12) code.
Entry point: 0xc000
Code range: 0x4000-0x3dbe60

I have no problems loading the 1.0.2 release.

Let me know if you would like more testing.

Thanks!

Did you vote twice?

In any case, I'd like to see what happens when you try loading it using your desktop.

The way you just tried it will not work with the boot jumper installed...

Using the ms2dl.exe that's included with the firmware, you should try:

ms2dl.exe -r 115200 -j ms2_extra.s19

I only have two laptop machines ;)

Ok.. tried that and it worked! Sweet! I like the jumperless install.

However, your batch file doesn't work. CHOICE.COM will not run. Gives me the following error: "The system cannot execute the specified program."

There is definitely something funky about that COM file. The one included with 029v works fine. You might want to look into that. I'm running XPSP2 - nothing fancy - been working with MS1Extra for years.

Btw, for errorlevels, you want to list them in reverse order. This is a known issue for different versions of DOS, including the win variants:

Thanks,
Mike

Batch file works fine for majority. I think it's person settings and virus scanners or other apps that are conflicting. Wish we could change his vote.

The errorlevel order should still be reversed. This will ensure full compatibility with *all* versions of DOS/Win, not just the ones we happen to be using.

Sorry about the negative vote - I'd change it if I could ;)

That's kind of like the "copyini.bat" file I fixed, it worked on a couple versions of windows, somehow. But I fixed it to look like a normal batch file and now it should work on ALL versions.

I loaded MS2/Extra 1.0.2 release, Beta610, 617, and 707

No problems loading with .bat file

When loading previous .msq, I had several errors. I set the settings manually. MS2/Extra is not yet installed in car
