EAE + long MAP hoses

Post by natesully »

Is anyone running long MAP lines (a few meters or more)? Will placing MS behind the passenger seat kill my EAE with evil lag?

You could measure that yourself actually...

I'd think it might slow things down a bit, but I'm not sure it'll give you "evil lag."

The easiest way to find out is to put a really long MAP line on there without moving the MS to the new location. Whether it runs different or not, you'll have your answer, and for the cost of a few feet of MAP line (probably not expensive.)

I would- but my car will not run, I have MS wired to the new location (factor computer harness) already. My guess is it won't be that bad, since the vacuum pulses travel at the speed of sound, and I don't think my valves or throttle have broken the sound barrier lately.

I would personally run a external GM map sensor under the bonnet and run your map signal wire out through the wiring harness into the engine bay instead of a vacuum line that long.

I think I'll just run the MAP line for now, but I'm gonna go with the GM MAP sensor as soon as I can order one. The stock MAF wires should suffice for a harness. Good idea!

I run 12' of vacuum line to my MS box. Seems to work just fine to me.

somewhere around (the manual probably) it says bruce n al did an experiment with 30ft of hose, and couldnt measure the delay... should be sweet provided its not huge/tiny hose.

Can you remote mount the map sensor, or is there concern with noise at that point?

yes, and many do, but i'd be paranoid about noise before i was about the throttle plate doing mach 4 :-)

I think the pressure wave will travel with the speed of sound, that is ~340 m/s at 20 C. You'll have a 3ms delay for each m of the MAP line then.

When I first installed mine, I had a gm 3-bar mounted under hood with 1' of hose. I then changed to a board mount 3-bar with 8' of hose. Couldn't tell a difference in anything.
