COP without Wasted Spark on odd wheels?

Post by UnaClocker »

This isn't a question that pertains to the release code, so I'm posting it here..
There's quite a bit of interest in doing COP by the Neon guys. But doing it without the wasted spark type hack. It seems to me I read in the MS manual that you simply select either single coil, wasted spark or COP. It's not all that dependant on which wheel you have with MS2E. Since the MS2E code treats all wheels the same, it doesn't seem like it'd matter that I'm using a Neon one, or a 36-1, or whatever. Though I know you do have to have a second (cam) trigger for the COP setup.
Am I interpreting it correctly? Can I select the Neon/420a decoder, select a second trigger (never done this but it's covered in the manual) and then select COP?
There are several people interested in the answer to this.. :)

Right now, I don't think you can do that, as the "special" wheels are only set up for the stock configurations... meaning if you don't have a second trigger stock, your specific decoder won't work with a second trigger.

Much like Ken says, the existing 420A/Neon decoder is written to only use the crank wheel. I have the pattern data to interpret the cam as well, but the code has not been written. As I understand it, the OEM ran wasted spark and sequential fuel.

Yeah, it did. Just some people were hoping to modernize some. I just thought the wheel was decoded and then ran through the standard routines after that. So you could simply add on a second wheel and modernize the engine some. No biggie..

We could probably add support for that without too much trouble, it just doesn't do that right now.

The royal we.
OK, I think I got it running COP in the CVS code. Expect another beta soon. I didn't see the no-spark issue again though, so not sure what's going on there.
