MS2/Extra 2.0 beta13 (20071015)

Post by muythaibxr »

Changes include:

1) Made semi-sequential easier to configure.

You now specify a trigger number rather than specifying a tooth number. So for a wasted spark 4 cylinder, you'd want 1 or 2, or for a COP 4 cylinder, 1,2,3, or 4, etc... For now, status2 shows the tooth number of that trigger, status3 shows inj1's tooth, and status4 shows inj2's tooth. I'll eventually add new variables to watch these values.

2) More ignition fixes, mainly for the 2nd trigger and cam vs. crank wheel settings.

3) More changes to Neon/420a mode.

I didn't get a chance to make the changes for the stepper motor tonight, so I'll have to make those later this week, probably Thursday.

James: If I missed anything please list it when you get a chance.

The beta is here:

jsmcortina EDIT: There is a bug with trigger wheel, do not use this beta. Use beta 14 or later instead.

To understand this semi-seq setup, we are going to trigger off of a ignition event instead of a tooth? Or am i not understanding that right.. For example, in the 4/2 CAS code, i'm using teeth, 3,7. If i choose 1, it would be a diff set of teeth, and if i choose 2, it would be the 3,7?

There are internal trigger teeth that the code uses during spark event scheduling. Previously, the tooth you specified had to be a trigger tooth in order to work. That required you to figure out what the trigger teeth are, which would've been difficult to document and caused lots of questions.

Now, you just specify which trigger, and it'll select the tooth that trigger falls on. Just watch the status variables, and change the trigger tooth until the status variables match up with what you want.

I've been running beta 8 with great success since it's release. I decided today it was time to upgrade to beta 13!

Flashed the firmware, loaded all my settings and attempted to start the car.

It sounded like it was trying to spark each coil at the bottom of the compression stroke! It wouldn't start, any sign of combustion slowed down the crank or even stalled it.

I quadruple checked EVERYTHING and still no luck. Decided to revert back to beta 8 and wouldn't you know it, first attempt and it starts right up.

Don't know what was lost between beta 8 and beta 13 but toothed wheel wasted spark no longer works at all.

Tested with trigger number 1. Smooth as ever. It's just feels like using 3,7 settings in the previous beta.

Using trigger no:2, the engine have occasional dropout when accellarate from a stand still. Higher rev is not a problem, only on take off.

Chris,

Please post an MSQ and a log of the start attempt. It is probably something simple in the MSQ.

Unfortunately I don't have a datalog of trying to start on beta 13 but I do have a MSQ on beta 13 and beta 8.

Tried to attach them but got this error:

"Sorry, you have reached your maximum Upload Quota Limit of 1 MB"

What's this about? Ths MSQ's are only ~45KB each.

I'm glad I saw this post, because I am having the same issue. My car will not run with Beta 13. 60-2 wasted spark. If you hold your foot on the gas, it will start, and run for a few seconds but it sounds and feels HORRIBLE, like there is a ton of stress on the crank. I'll post my MSQ but not a data log as I didn't get any and am not willing to try to start my car on B13 again.

Some weirdness confirmed. I expect it to be confined to the "trigger wheel".

I'm going to work on it now.

Ooops!
I think I found it, one comparison in error - the code was always working as if in COP mode. So a 4cyl motor will have tried to fire twice as often per revolution with totally weird timing.

I've posted a single s19 file.
Grab http://www.msextra.com/ms2extra/files/a ... _extra.s19 and save it over the top of the one in the beta 13 directory.
Then re-flash it and let me know if it works.

If all is well I'll post another beta later today.

Thanks for testing and apologies for the silly mistake.
