Trigger return using TFI problem

Post by Luke »

I've just switched from using the B&G MS2 release to the MSExtra2 beta 14. I chose the beta over the release because of the extra trigger return settings but I can't get them to work for me.

First I configured everything so they were alike my old settings including "basic trigger" in the ignition settings, tranferred my maps across and she fired up and idled lovely (with a bit of distributor twiddling and the timing gun).

Then I switched over to "trigger return" using the settings for 6 cylinders suggested in the screenshots on the TFI page of the msextra manual and it missfired a whole bunch then died. I'm thinking the hall gated wheel thing in my dizzy is different to the one measured for those settings but don't understand what the 55degrees refers to, could somebody enlighten me please? I'm thinking my next step is to measure that wheel.

I'm planning on slowly switching over to stuff like EAE and closed loop idle PWM once I've got my base VE/Ign maps to the stage where I'm really happy with them, then adding boost control, shiftlights, fanswitching, flatshift. Looking forward to it :)

You don't have a signature PIP distributor do you? That will not work correctly.
From what I've read in some Ford documents I'm not entirely sure that trigger return will work correctly on TFI as implemented because the document says that the hall sensor changes its response based on temperature.

I'm sure there's a way to give the code the benefit of trigger return when cranking but ignore the potentially unrealiable sensor.

Note that there may be a bug with trigger return as one or two people have reported an issue. I'll take a look sometime soon.

I do have a PIP distributor (it's a ford sierra cologne V6) I'll leave set as it is then it's running okay except for the occasional tacho spike but it's probably a sensor fault, I'll be swapping the distributor over to see if that cures those.

Thanks
