Supported? - GM 3.8L DIS

Post by md95 »

Just wondering about this engine and if the OEM crank wheel is supported? I looked in the docs, and didnt really see much, unless i missed something..If not, i'm surprised no one has wanted to run this engine yet. I have a friend who i'm trying to convince to run the MS2 on. He has a super charged Grand Prix 3.8 L engine.

Take a look at the MS1/Extra and MS2 base GM DIS info - I believe that is what the 3.8L is using and should work similarly on MS2/Extra.

Thanks James. I did some reading on how it all works, and i understand it now. It actually makes it fairly simple to run a MS on one of these, with the IC module doing most the work.

Check out the Aussie MegaSquirt stuff.....

It is the holden engine down here ...

Yes I think it has been done, but isn't it an "odd fire" engine, which
aren't supported ...

I don't think they are an odd fire engine..Even if it were, it wouldnt matter anyway? From what i can tell, the ignition control module is doing most the work, by decoding the crank sensors, and firing the coil packs in the right order. Then all you need is the tach signal to input to the MS, and have 2 outputs, one for letting the module do it's own timing advance during cranking, then one that actually sets the ignition advance. It looks like just one simple pulsed output to the IC module to control all 6 cylinder's spark..That's pretty slick.
